Top 10 NFL Prospects
By Gabe Dobmeyer | Published  12/10/2007

1. *Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas, 6' 2" 215 lbs.
Simply put, McFadden is the complete package NFL running back. I think he's the best player on the board, but teams with solid running backs will likely pass on him for no apparent reason. All those teams that passed on Adrian Peterson last year are kicking themselves. Will the same thing happen to McFadden? He is a special talent who has the speed (4.40sec./40yds.), strength, footwork, and vision to make the big play every time he touches the ball. He will wreak havoc on the league.

2. Glenn Dorsey, DT, Louisiana State, 6' 2" 300 lbs.
Dorsey could be the first player taken off the board next April. Blessed with quick feet, excellent balance, and a non-stop motor, and the mental toughness to play through pain, he is a major disruptor on the defensive line. The explosive Dorsey would start from day one on most NFL teams, and he is clearly the best interior lineman in the  draft.

3. Jake Long, OT, Michigan, 6' 7" 320 lbs.
There is no doubt that Jake Long is the best offensive lineman in the entire draft class. Some people say he should have come out last year after his junior season when he was voted Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year. Instead, he stayed and watch two other Big Ten tackles selected in the top 5. Long is a good fit on any team that wants a phyiscal monster with a mean streak. He possesses the athleticism and strength needed to dominate at the next level for years to come.

4. Chris Long, DE, Virginia, 6' 5" 285  lbs.
So many teams need help on the defensive line, and Long is a great fit for any scheme, whether it be the 3-4 or 4-3. He takes on double-teams well and has a real nose for the ball. When he's on the field the offense must always find where he's lined up before they think about running a play. Aside from being an obvious upgrade to the pass rush on any team, Long will be a welcome addition to any defense that might be struggling against the run.

5. Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC, 6' 1" 285 lbs.
Quick and strong, Ellis will start immediately for many teams and provide strength at the point of attack. The second best defensive tackle in the draft has been nothing short of dominating throughout his career at USC. His 3-technique reminds scouts of former Trojan Mike Patterson, and he draws comparisons to Texans' DT Amobi Okoye.

6. *Calais Campbell, DE, Miami(FL), 6' 8" 285 lbs.
Campbell is an absolute monster pass rusher who would immediately help any team in the NFL. He made his name for his work rushing the quarterback, but his enormous wingspan allow him to be very capable against the run. He commands a double-team or a chip-block on every snap and is the kind of athlete that offenses must account for on every snap. Though he may be a bit raw he will be too tempting for some team to pass up. He should go in the top ten picks next April.

7. Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College, 6' 5" 220 lbs.
He's smart, has the arm strength to make all the throws, and he's already in a pro-style offense at BC. He could possibly step right in and start for some teams, which may lead to him being selected a spot or two higher in the draft. No quarterback in this draft is in the mold of Peyton Manning or Tom Brady, but Matt Ryan seems to be the closest thing available at the quarterback position.

8. *Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State, 6' 180 lbs.
The term "shutdown corner" is a phrase often thrown around way too often when people describe some cornerbacks, but this term may indeed apply to Jenkins. Ohio State has produced several solid corners over the years, and there is no reason to suspect he wouldn't be solid as well. He has the tackling ability to perform well in the Cover-2 defense, but he's also physical enough to jam even the strongest wide receivers. I wouldn't put him in the Champ Bailey category just yet, but he's got a chance to be pretty darn good.

9. *Kenny Phillips, S, Miami(FL), 6' 2" 210 lbs.
Phillips should stay in school for another year, but he won't after he hears how high he could go. He is the best safety in the draft, and if he skips his last year of eligibility he could be taken in the top 10. Smooth and athletic, Phillips has the ability to make huge plays on the defensive side of the ball. He has a very high ceiling, as he draws comparisons to Philadelphia's Brian Dawkins.

10. *James Laurinaitis, LB, Ohio State,  6' 2" 245 lbs
You can talk about Dan Connor from Penn State and Keith Rivers from USC, but they're just a notch below this tackling machine from Columbus. His instincts for finding the ball carrier have drawn comparisons to former Buckeye great Chris Spielman. If he's any bit as good as him his likely high selection will be well deserved. Laurinaitis possesses the leadership, talent, and all-important "intangibles" to become a very solid linebacker in the NFL.
