Another
case of the Mondays here... and with that, welcome back.
Seeing
how I’m about to take my vacation, this will be an abbreviated version of Extra Innings. So without any further
ado, a look at the results from the seven recommended pitchers from the past
week:
39.2
IP 2 Wins 5.67 ERA 1.44 WHIP 30 Ks
Eek.
There were some very mixed results from the starts last week. I actually made
the error of thinking Zach Miner was
facing Javier Vazquez at Comerica
Park, and recommended Miner while telling everyone to bench Vazquez; while it
was the other way around, Miner silenced the White Sox as he had two previous
times and it still turned about to be good foresight. Ubaldo Jiminez was one disappointment in getting roughed up by the
Nationals, so that was unfortunate. Now onto
the seven starters to ditch from last week:
43
IP 1 Win 5.44 ERA 1.37 WHIP 36 Ks
Much
better results with the sits, thankfully. As predicted, Matt Garza continued his awful split of road starts by allowing
five runs over less than six innings, in Seattle
no less. The lone win came from Wandy
Rodriguez yesterday in a quality start in Cincinnati. And my apologies to staying away
from Manny Parra; by saying that, I
did not also anticipate a hook from Prince
Fielder. Ouch.

Notes: Josh Beckett against a strong White Sox
offense in Chicago
doesn’t seem like the greatest matchup, but the powerful righty has a reverse
split: batters his just .235 against him on the road, as opposed to .284 at
Fenway…If he’s still available, pick up Brett
Myers. He should have a pitching duel with Hideki Kuroda in Dodgers Stadium Thursday, and has looked poised in
his return to the rotation.
