If his injury shocked you, then we have a bridge to sell you.

New York Yankees
Hitters: Bobby Abreu
was 0-for-3 Saturday against Boston with two walks and is in a 1-for-26
slump. Before the slump began, Abreu was batting .339 and has since
watched his average drop almost .100 points without a single RBI to
show for it. As long as he continues to hit in front of Alex Rodriguez,
he will get pitches and break out of it soon. Abreu’s RBI
potential in this lineup is too strong to consider sitting him in most
leagues so stay the course.
Pitchers:
I swear you can’t make this stuff up. Banished to mop up duty
recently, the Yankees $40 million investment in Kei Igawa
came out of the bullpen and saved the slumping Yankees when they
desperately needed him. Igawa shut out Boston for six-plus innings
after replacing injured starter Jeff Karstens,
who suffered a broken right leg off a line drive by Boston’s
Julio Lugo in the first inning. Igawa allowed just two hits, with six
strikeouts for the win. Karstens probably isn't worth keeping around,
even in AL-only leagues, so you can go ahead and cut him. Kei Igawa
likely will replace him in the rotation and should be viewed as a
“wait and see” candidate until he proves this
outing wasn’t a fluke.

There's
no power, the speed is gone, but you can at least count on the batting
average. Or, at least, you used to be able to - that's going down slow.

Oakland Athletics
Hitters: Catcher Jason Kendall
is in a 3-for-19 (.158) slump over his last five games. In that span,
he's scored one run, walked twice and driven in none. Veteran Fantasy
owners realize this is no surprise. Kendall is a low-end Fantasy
catcher because of his lack of pop, but he does play every day at least
and will accumulate points just by being in the lineup more regularly
than most catchers.
Pitchers: Rich Harden
(Shoulder) opted not to throw Friday, one day after apparently feeling
soreness in his right shoulder from playing catch. Harden said his
activity Friday was limited to a lower-body workout. Harden's eligible
to come off the disabled list Tuesday, but it's unknown when he'll be
ready to make another start. As of now, he remains a risky start for
Fantasy Week 5 (April 30-May 6). When healthy, he is a must-start in
all Fantasy formats.
Seattle Mariners
Hitters: The adjustment to American League pitching continues to go smoothly for new DH Jose Vidro,
who has ran his hitting streak to 12 games. Vidro, who also qualifies
at second base in many league formats, is hitting .333. Taking Vidro
out of the field and sticking him at DH seems to have revived his
career. He will not get you many homers or steals, but he faces far
less risk for injury at DH and has once again become a viable mixed
league Fantasy option especially with his eligibility at 2B.
Pitchers: Closer J.J. Putz
recorded the final five outs in Friday’s 7-4 win over the
Royals for his third save in as many chances. The Mariners have
struggled for wins in the early season and that has been a big reason
why Putz has only three saves.
Tampa Bay Devil Rays
Hitters: Second baseman B.J. Upton
hit a solo home run in the second inning Saturday at Oakland on one of
few mistake pitches by Dan Haren. Upton also doubled in the fifth and
scored again and finished 3-for-4 for the day. Upton, who is now
batting .357, has been getting it done at the plate and has warranted
use in most Fantasy leagues. He's available in 21 percent of leagues,
but he shouldn't be.
Pitchers: RHP James Shields
struck out nine to help his team snap an 11-game losing streak on the
West Coast with a 4-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday
night. Shields (2-0) pushed his season strikeout total to 37 in five
starts. Shields, who struck out 12 on April 22 against Cleveland,
allowed four hits and one run and didn't walk a batter in eight
innings. He retired 19 of his final 20 batters. Shields' 37 strikeouts
in April moved him past Scott Kazmir for the most in Tampa Bay history
for the month. Start him in all mixed leagues at this point.

Mark Teixeira needs to go the Clemens route next year and take the first half of the season off. |
Texas Rangers
Hitters: First baseman Mark Teixeira
went 3-4 and scored three runs Saturday at Toronto, including his
second homer in as many days. He now has back-to-back multi-hit games
after going 2-for-4 Friday. Tex is off to another relatively slow start
this season, but could be on the verge of heating up. He has been a
frustrating fantasy option since 2006, but is still capable of posting
first-round numbers. Michael Young
got two hits Saturday and now has eight hits in his last 25 at-bats. He
has average up to .202 and is quickly erasing a slow start as well.
Pitchers: According to MLB.com, Brandon McCarthy
threw two scoreless innings of relief Wednesday against the Indians
after the team skipped his turn in the rotation because of Tuesday's
rainout. McCarthy (1-3, 9.00 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched) is expected to make his
next start Sunday against the Blue Jays, but is too much of a risky
option in Fantasy leagues at this time.
Toronto Blue Jays
Hitters: Outfielder Adam Lind
hit a two-run drive for his second homer for the Blue Jays Saturday vs.
Texas. Lind also homered in Toronto's 5-3 loss Friday. Lind has done
well at the plate since his recall from the minors and is showing Blue
Jays fans the future in left field. Lind will remain in the starting
lineup until Johnson is set to return in July. Even then, he might keep
the job if he performs well. Lind is worth a look in all Fantasy
formats as a low-end OF.
Pitchers: Gustavo Chacin
pitched 5 1/3 innings Saturday vs. Texas. He did not factor in the
final decision, allowing four runs. He walked four batters and struck
out only one. Chacin remains a very good start in AL-only, but he's
best used in mixed leagues when he faces favorable matchups or two
starts in a week. He is slated to pitch next at Cleveland in Fantasy
Week 5 (April 30-May 6).
