Billy Butler is up and out to show that Alex Gordon is not the only Royals' prospect that can mash.

The Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Luis Terrero from Triple-A Charlotte.
Analysis: Terrero takes the place of outfielder Brian Anderson who was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on April 29. He batted .318 with 16 homers, 44 RBI and 18 stolen bases at Triple-A Ottawa last year so he has decent pop in his bat as well as pretty good speed. Terrero will serve as the team’s fourth outfielder and most likely will only have slight value, if any, in AL-only leagues.
Cleveland Indians optioned starting pitcher Fausto Carmona to Triple-A Buffalo and recalled outfielder Ben Francisco from Buffalo.
Analysis: Carmona was hit hard in his first start of the season when he allowed six earned runs and seven hits over 4-1/3 innings, but he rebounded with three consecutive strong performances. Over that span, he allowed a total of five earned runs in 22 innings pitched. The 23-year-old right-hander will most certainly be atop the list of candidates the next time injury befalls a member of the Indians pitching staff.
Colorado Rockies optioned middle infielder Clint Barmes to Triple-A Colorado Springs; Recalled middle infielder Omar Quintanilla from Colorado Springs.
Analysis: Barmes has not been able to regain the magic that he possessed at the start of the 2005 campaign. He was just 2-for-20 since being recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs on April 15. Quintanilla will fill the backup infielder role previously held by Barmes and have no fantasy value.
Florida Marlins activated starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco from the 15-day disabled list and designated relief pitcher Nate Field for assignment.
Analysis: Nolasco picked up a win on May 1 against the Mets in his first start back as he allowed just one run on six hits while striking out five in five innings. He should have some value in NL-only leagues. Field was touched up for three runs in his only inning of work with the Marlins.
Kansas City Royals placed first baseman Ryan Shealy on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring injury; Purchased the contract of outfielder Billy Butler from Triple-A Omaha; Optioned relief pitcher Ryan Braun to Triple-A Omaha; Recalled relief pitcher Neal Musser from Omaha.
Analysis: Shealy was off to a disappointingly slow start prior to the injury. He was batting just .113 with one homer and five RBI in 53 at-bats. Butler, widely regarded as the team’s top hitting prospect still in the minors to open the season, was batting .337 with six homers and 23 RBI in 89 at-bats for Triple-A Omaha. He figures to play virtually everyday whether it be as an outfielder, designated hitter or first baseman and should have some value in AL-only leagues. Braun is a pretty good relief prospect, but he struggled with his control, walking eight in 9-1/3 innings. Musser will pitch in middle relief and have no fantasy value.
Minnesota Twins activated third baseman Jeff Cirillo from the 15-day disabled

Cirillo often wears a different jersey and is often injured. That's no different this year

list and optioned utility infielder Alexi Casilla to Triple-A Rochester.
Analysis: Cirillo should have a little value in AL-only leagues while serving as the team’s primary backup at third base and designated hitter against left-handed pitching. Casilla, 22, has the potential to be a long term option at second base for the Twins, but he will be best served by getting some additional time at the Triple-A level. Look for him to possibly take over for Luis Castillo, a player whose talents are very similar, in 2008.
Oakland Athletics placed outfielder Bobby Kielty on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 29, with a strained left calf; Recalled catcher Adam Melhuse from Triple-A Sacramento.
Analysis: Kielty had only appeared in nine games prior to the injury. Melhuse will again serve primarily as a backup catcher and have no fantasy value.
Texas Rangers placed outfielder Frank Catalanotto (right bicep strain) on 15-day DL; Recalled outfielder Victor Diaz and relief pitcher Mike Wood from Triple-A Oklahoma; Optioned relief pitcher Scott Feldman to Oklahoma.
Analysis: Catalanotto batted just .140 with two homers and eight RBI in 57 at-bats during the month of April. He is not expected to miss much time beyond the required 15 days. Diaz was swinging the bat exceptionally well at Triple-A Oklahoma prior to his promotion. In 90 at-bats, the former Met was batting .356 with three homers and 28 RBI. He could have some short term value in AL-only leagues. Wood will not have any fantasy value as a middle reliever. Feldman allowed a total of three runs over his first eight appearances, but followed that by giving up five runs in his last three games.

Arizona Diamondbacks recalled third baseman Brian Barden from Triple-A Tucson; optioned relief pitcher Dana Eveland to Tucson.
Analysis: Barden, 26, could provide some solid value if Chad Tracy is forced to miss more than a couple of days. He struggled with Arizona last month as he managed just one hit in ten at-bats, but this is a guy who hit .298 with 16 homers and 96 RBI in 494 at-bats last season Tucson last season.
Eveland made two appearances as a reliever in the short time he was up with the Diamondbacks and allowed three earned runs in 1-1/3 innings of work. He could be back later this season though should injuries again strike the pitching staff.

| With slugging catcher Brian McCann out, Salty gets his chance to shine. |
Atlanta Braves purchased the contract of catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia from Double-A Mississippi and starting pitcher Kevin Barry from Triple-A Richmond; Placed starting pitcher Mark Redman (left toe ailment) and catcher Brayan Pena (concussion-related symptoms) on the 15-day disabled list; Transferred relief pitcher Tanyon Sturtze to the 60-day disabled list.
Analysis: Brian McCann remains day-to-day with a bruised left ring finger so Saltalamacchia, a.k.a. “Salty”, the top prospect in the Braves organization, will get a few starts while McCann recovers. Salty was batting .309 with six homers and 13 RBI in 81 at-bats at Mississippi. NL-only leaguers should keep an eye on this situation, but it's not worth picking up Saltalamacchia at this point.
Barry is 28-year-old right-hander who got a taste of the major leagues with the Braves last season going 1-1 with a 5.61 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 25-2/3 innings. He is expected to take Redman’s spot in the rotation for the time being, but he is not viewed as a long term solution. There is really no reason for those in NL-only leagues to add him. Redman has been atrocious this season and it is quite possible that his May 1st start against the Phillies will prove to be his last appearance in a Braves uniform. The transfer of Sturtze from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list was a maneuver designed to create a spot on the 40-man roster for Saltalamacchia. Sturtze remains unlikely to return until July as he recovers from shoulder surgery.Detroit Tigers optioned relief pitcher Aquilino Lopez to Triple-A Toledo.
Analysis: Lopez had no record and a 5.68 ERA in three appearances with the Tigers last month. That two-week stint was his first appearance in the major leagues since 2005.
Los Angeles Angels placed third baseman Maicer Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a tight right hamstring and recalled third baseman/shortstop Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake.
Analysis: The top prospect in the Angels organization hopes to fare better this time around than he did last month when he went 1-for-8. Wood figures to see limited playing time as Chone Figgins, now back in the fold after missing most of April with two broken fingers on his right hand, will most likely remain at third base. Erick Aybar is expected to see most of the playing time at second base while Izturis is out.
The Oakland Athletics acquired outfielder Chris Snelling from the Washington Nationals in exchange for outfielder Ryan Langerhans.
Analysis: Ultimately, this is a very minor trade as neither player figures to have any fantasy value this season. The Nationals wanted to upgrade their defense and they did that with this trade. However, Langerhans is expected to serve as a reserve outfielder though so his very solid defensive skills will probably only be seen in limited quantities. Snelling will give the A’s some depth in the outfield, but that’s about it.
