9. Nick
Johnson Washington Nationals
The often-injured Johnson played in a career high 147 games last season. No
surprise that he also reached career highs in homers (23), RBI (77), runs (100)
and stolen bases (10). Too bad he finished the season on the disabled list with
a broken leg. He will not be ready for spring training and may not be ready for
the start of the season so owners should proceed with draft day caution. At
best, Johnson is a nice find if you can muddle through part of April without a
serious contribution from the Nats' injured first baseman.

10. Carlos Delgado New
York Mets
Delgado's
average dropped precipitously last, down 36 points from the year before. Part of that was hitting in Shea Stadium,
where he hit only .226, as opposed to hitting .304 on the road. Another reason was some nagging
injuries. He had surgery in October to
repair a torn elbow tendon. He should be
in good shape by spring training, so at least that part of the equation should
be better. He should also be less streaky
than he was in 2006. Delgado should get more protection in the Mets order with
Moises Alou hitting behind him and Wright.

11. Conor Jackson Arizona Diamondbacks
Jackson looks like he should be a homerun
hitter. He's 6'2" and 225 pounds... but he hit only 15 dingers last season. He
did not swing for power in his three minor league seasons either. Jackson,
24, is a project and he could should show progress in the next three seasons,
but don't expect All Star results in 2007.

12. Mike Jacobs Florida Marlins
Jacobs struggles against lefties.
Last year he hit only .182 against southpaws. If he played in a league with only right-handed pitching, he would hit
30 homeruns. Jacobs figures to platoon,
probably with rookie Jason Stokes. Don't expect much more than what he did last
season. Jacobs finished the season very
cold, hitting only .203 from August to the end of the season. Although 26, he has limited upside, unless another team outside of Dolphins Stadium shows interest.
