National League East
 Fantasy Baseball - Tim Hudson
Finally - Tim Hudson is back.

National League East Notes

Atlanta Braves

Hot: After some mid-season struggles, Tim Hudson has settled down and is 4-0 with a 2.61 ERA in his last five starts, with 24 strikeouts and just five walks in 31 innings.

Not: Scott Thorman’s playing time has dried up significantly over the last 30 days, and deservedly so. Over the last 30 days, Thorman has made just 16 appearances and only 38 at-bats, and his efforts at the plate are not earning him more at-bats – in that time, he is hitting just .105 with only one extra base hit, a double, and three RBI.

Florida Marlins

Scott Olsen knows how to celebrate his wins with style. Oh, wait, I meant stupidity, not style. Olsen picked up a rare win on Friday and followed that up with an arrest early Saturday morning for driving under the influence and resisting arrest. And by resisting arrest, I mean, going COPS all over the police before being brought down by way of Taser. Olsen’s time with the club has been marred by multiple emotional outbursts, fights with teammates, and fights with his manager, so this is just the latest in a long list of issues the Marlins have had with their promising young starter.

New York Mets

Hot: The Mets have to be thrilled to have Oliver Perez back. In two starts since returning, Perez is 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA, 14 strikeouts, and six walks in 13 1/3 innings.

Not: The wheels are starting to come off once again for Jorge Sosa. Just one of Sosa’s last three starts and only two of his last six starts have been quality starts, and his ERA over those six starts is 6.90. Sosa has never been a long-term quality rotation option, so this is not a minor bump but a return to the norm for him.

Philadelphia Phillies

Hot: Pat Burrell is quietly starting to turn his season around, finally. For the month of July, Burrell is hitting .415 with 4 home runs, 13 RBI, 12 runs, a 537 OBP, and .756 slugging. Of course, as far as Burrell owners are concerned, it is about time he started doing something.

Not: While he continues to get more playing time than Rod Barajas, Carlos Ruiz is doing little to justify it. In July, Ruiz has made nine appearances and picked up 28 at-bats. In that time, he is hitting just .107 with no home runs and four RBI.

Washington Nationals

Hot: The offensive leader of the Nationals continues to be Dmitri Young. In 15 games in July, Young is hitting .353 with 2 homers, 15 RBI, 7 runs, and an OPS of 1.011. Young is not walking much, with just five walks in 51 at-bats, but he is also not striking out much either, with only nine strikeouts.

Not: I know Brian Schneider is highly regarded for his glove, not his bat, but some offense – any at all – would be nice. Schneider is hitting just .121 in July with only one RBI and three runs scored.
