AL & NL Only Options
  Alexi Casilla
The Twins are kicking themselves for not keeping Alexi Casilla with the team out of spring training. His hot hitting has sparked the Twins for the last two weeks.

AL Only Options

Alexi Casilla – Second Baseman – Minnesota Twins – When half of the Twins infield went on the DL with injuries back in the second week of May, the Twins finally called up Alexi Casilla, a player who was projected to make the team back in the spring, but was left off the roster in favor of Matt Tolbert. All Casilla has done since his call up is hit like crazy. He has hit safely in 17 of the 20 games he’s played, and is currently in the midst of an eight game hitting strreat. He is overall batting average currently sits at .343, with 2 home runs, 16 RBI, 12 runs, and a pair of stolen bases. Brendan Harris is covering shortstop due to injury, Matt Macri was just sent back to the minors, and Nick Punto, Adam Everett, and Tolbert all remain on the DL, leaving the stick-happy Casilla to continue as the full time second baseman for the foreseeable future. He is definitely worth adding in AL only leagues and could even have some value in mixed formats if you are in need of a replacement.

Jeremy Sowers – Starting Pitcher – Cleveland Indians – In spring training, Jeremy Sowers competed with Aaron Laffey and Cliff Lee for the final spot in the Indians starting rotation. Lee won that battle and has been lights out ever since. Meanwhile, Sowers has been toiling away in the minors, and generally pitching very well. He is a control type pitcher, who needs to locate his pitches consistently and fool hitters with his motion, as he does not blow people away. Last season the Tribe gave him a shot in the rotation, but he got hit hard and forgot how to throw strikes, resulting in a demotion to find his stuff again. Sowers appears to have harnessed his command, and seems ready for another go at a rotation spot. There are some who believe the Indians are showcasing Sowers for a potential deadline trade for an impact bat, with the Rockies interested in his services. For the time being, Sowers can help your AL only team and is worth a flier for at least the short term.

NL Only Options

Chad Tracy – Corner Infielder – Arizona Diamondbacks – It was a harrowing winter for Chad Tracy, as his recovery from microfracture surgery on his knee was beset with complications and setbacks that threatened to derail his baseball career. After several touch and go months, during which it looked as though Tracy was done, he finally started making progress with the use of a special zero-gravity treadmill brought in by the Diamondbacks especially for him. He was activated during the last week of May, and has played nearly every game since, primarily at first base in place of the ailing Conor Jackson. Tracy has been “Wally Pipped” at third base by Mark Reynolds, but manager Bob Melvin has indicated that Tracy will get at-bats spelling Reynolds and Jackson on a regular basis, and as a pinch hitter. His fantasy value is limited to deeper NL only leagues at this point, though it is entirely possible that his value will increase if he is able to perform anywhere close to his former self.

Jorge Campillo – Starting Pitcher – Atlanta Braves – Campillo was called upon to start when the Braves had a double header to play and were faced with a shortage of live arms to put on the mound. He had been used exclusively as a relief pitcher to that point, rarely throwing more than an inning or two. However, he was dominant in that outing, hurling six strong innings and limiting the Mets to three hits, while striking out seven. Campillo went on to throw nearly 15 innings before surrendering his first earned run. He’s now started four games, with an ERA of 2.37 and 19 strikeouts in 19 innings, and the Braves are considering keeping him in the rotation. While his history doesn’t indicate that he is anywhere near this good, he certainly has a good skill set and may turn out to be a very effective starter. He is worth a flier in NL only leagues and will provide plenty of strikeouts and possibly even wins along with decent ratios.
