Led once again by Tim Duncan (No. 21), the Spurs could clinch another world title as soon as Thursday in Game 4 of the Finals.

2007 NBA Finals

SPURS ONE STEP AWAY!

LeBron James finally got some help from his teammates and promising rookie Daniel Gibson finally got a start, but all in all, it just wasn't quite enough to help the Cavaliers pull themselves back in this Finals series. With a 75-72 win on the Cavs' court, the Spurs could clinch another world title as soon as Thursday night as Game 4 takes center stage at Quicken Loans Arena...

TUESDAY'S GAME

ELSEWHERE AROUND THE NBA...

- As the SuperSonics and Kings continue to search for new head coaches, another well-known play-caller has emerged: Rick Carlisle. Fired recently as head coach of the Pacers, Carlisle was expected by some to stay with the Indiana organization in a front office role. But Tuesday he announced he is leaving the Pacers, which obviously makes him more available as a potential bench boss for Seattle or Sacramento. Carlisle didn't have a losing record in his first three seasons guiding the Pacers, but his 35-47 mark last season saw him removed.

- The news continues to get worse for J.R. Smith in his car crash situation. The Nuggets' reserve swingman has reportedly been released from hospital following treatment for a left shoulder injury, but a friend with him during the accident has died from head injuries. Both Smith and Andre Bell were thrown from Smith's SUV Saturday in Millstone, New Jersey, and neither was wearing a seat belt. Investigation of the crash is reportedly ongoing, but the Newark Star-Ledger reports Smith has been cited several times in the past year for traffic violations.

- Are fans less than excited about the Spurs-Cavs Final? On Sunday, for the second straight game, the NBA Finals were a major ratings disappointment. After Game 1's viewership was down a whopping 19 percent from last year, Game 2's ratings were behind by 30 percent from last year's take for the second contest of the Heat-Mavericks showdown. Some of Sunday's loss is obviously because of having to compete with the series finale of the Sopranos, but it's clear that fans are not as excited with this year's Finals matchup as last year's.

- Now that the Grizzlies have former Phoenix assistant Marc Iavaroni hired as head coach, focus has turned to finding a new GM. With that in mind, the Memphis Commercial-Appeal reports the frontrunner for the job appears to be Boston GM Chris Wallace. Other prominent candidates have reportedly interviewed for the position, but Wallace appears to have the early edge at replacing outgoing boss Jerry West.
