Charlie Danoff
In his own head, Charlie has been a fantasy General Manager for years. Unfortunately, real NBA teams did not return his calls when he applied to be their "real" GM.  Following his rejection, he has spitefully chosen to share his knowledge with the world. For more from Charlie, visit his blog.

Three to Impress, Three to Digress
  Stromile Swift - Fantasy Basketball
Stromile Swift is one of this week's three on the rise.

For this week, I have three players you may not think much of to pick up, and three players you may think a lot of to deal. Consider that building a fantasy team is very similar to putting together a stock portfolio.

The way to do really well is to buy low and sell high. Along with that is a little risk, but the only way to win is by taking some chances.

Three Who Have Impressed

Stromile Swift

Over the course of his career, since coming out of LSU as the second overall pick of the Vancouver Grizzlies in 2000, Swift has been a failure. He has not lived up to his lofty draft status by becoming a superstar, or even a regular starter. Stunning endorsements aside, Swift is someone to pick up for your fantasy team. His per-game averages are not spectacular, but per 40 minutes, he is averaging 20 points and 10 boards. He only plays 17.1 minutes/game, but look for that number to go up as the season progresses. Darko Milicic, another failed No. 2, is playing far worse than Swift, and starting power forward Pau Gasol could be traded anytime. Eventually, coach Marc Iavaroni will be forced to give some of Darko's minutes to Swift, and if Gasol gets dealt, Swift becomes a starter. Once either of those events happens, you will be thanking the Charity Stripe for finding you a mid-season fantasy gem.

Note – Currently Swift is out with a stomach virus, but that should pass soon.

Matt Harpring

Typically, 6-7 white players off the bench are not fantasy stars, and that holds true with Harpring. Nevertheless, he is somebody to keep in mind if you need some help in the scoring department. His numbers are down from his career averages this year, only scoring 7.6 points/game, as opposed to 12.6/game over the course of his career. The biggest reasons are a dip in his three-point percentage, only making 25% of those, and he is shooting less free throws. Going forward, I do not see Harpring's bad shooting lasting. Typically as a player gets older, that is the last thing he loses as its not a skill related to athleticism. As the shooting picks back up, he will be fouled more, and score some easy points. He will not be a star, but he will have some big scoring games down the stretch as he does every year. Post All-Star break last year, he scored better than a point every two minutes.

Marquis Daniels

The 6-6 G/F from Jasper, Florida has not seen much success since he came to Indiana before the 2006-07 season. He was a big surprise early on in his career, going from an undrafted free agent to playing big minutes on a top NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks. Following the trade, however, his numbers have gone down across the board. Given that he is only 26, I attribute this to a sophomore slump, delayed a few years. He won't ever be 20 PPG scorer, but he can regularly get you double figures and help in the assist department, especially for a non-point guard. So far, for the month of December, he is averaging 4.3 assists per game; look for this trend to continue, and for Daniels to become a more reliable player on the court and in your fantasy roster.

Three to Digress

Antawn Jamison

Jamison is having by many accounts, a career year for the Wizards this season. Helping lead the Wizards back to respectability at 10-10, despite the Arenas injury, Antawn has been huge. He is averaging 21.4 points/game and a career high 10.3 rebounds/game for the season. Despite all this, Arenas will inevitably return, and when he does, those extra shots will start heading Agent Zero's way, and Jamison's numbers will go down. Jamison's value will probably never be higher. Deal him now, and feel really smart and cool when his numbers dip over the remainder of the season.

Zach Randolph & Eddy Curry

I put these two together for two reasons. The first is because they are such similar players. Both are tall, young, athletic big men, who score, but do not really defend or dominate as they should. Secondly, they are both having terrible years playing for one of the worst organizations in professional sports history. Points per game are way down for both of them relative to their career best: Randolph (23.6 to 16.6) and Curry (19.5 to 15.7). While Randolph still does rebound well, both really give you nothing else besides scoring. Between the two of them, despite standing a combined 13 feet, 7 inches tall, only average 0.8 blocks/game. Their value is low right now, but probably not quite as low as their perceived value, given they have performed well, statistically at least, over the course of their careers. Do not hold onto these two hoping and wishing they improve, get rid of these two while you still can.
