This past week was a coming out party.
Not for the Charlotte Bobcats or the New York Knicks who
each went 1-3. And certainly not for the Minnesota Timberwolves who went
winless in their four games.
It was a coming out party for some players – good players –
who hadn’t quite been living up to what we expect of them.
Like Dwayne Wade (
22.3 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 6.4 APG). The Miami Heat guard has had a rough season.
Granted he was coming off of knee surgery, but the man is just not getting it
done. This week however, he played up to his abilities averaging 27.0 points,
5.0 rebounds and 7.7 assists. Of course his 6.0 turnovers per game didn’t help
the numbers. Is it a possibility that he came back to early from knee his knee
troubles…
And what about Vinsanity – Vince Carter ( 20.8 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4.2 APG). The man had a week.
Carter has looked old for the first time in his career. He doesn’t always
rebound and is averaging only 1 block every other game. But this week, he
scored 26.0 PPG, 5.3 RPG and 4.0 APG. He scored six more points per game this
week, and more importantly, averaged only 1.0 turnover per game, as opposed to
2.7 for the season.
Oh Kirk. Kirk Hinrich
(10.8 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 5.9 APG) and the Chicago Bulls have had an awful year.
But both of them seemed to have healed some of their problems rather quickly
this week (HGH?). Hinrich played like the Kirk of last year dropping 14.3 per
game, grabbing 5.5 rebounds and dishing 9.0 assists each contest. He averaged
just over one turnover (well below his season average) and even got about one
block and two steals per game. Hinrich handles the ball more than anyone else
for the Bulls. So if Kirk can keep it flowing there’s no reason to think the
Bulls can’t crawl back into the crappy Eastern Conference as they have in years
past.
Those three guys had monster weeks, but here are the single
top three fantasy performances of the last seven days:
Grizzlies’ guard Rudy
Gay (18.4 PPG, 5.5 RPG, 1.6 APG) popped in 32 points, added seven rebounds
and had two steals in Memphis’ big win on the road against a tough Orlando
Magic team. This guy is getting good.
After getting LeBron
James back, the Cavaliers snapped their losing streak when they beat the
Indiana Pacers this week. But it was Larry
Hughes (12.0 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 2.1 APG) who stole the show, coming off of his
injury. Hughes scored 36 on 13-for-17 shooting, grabbed four boards, had three
assists and blocked two shots while playing 26 minutes off the bench in the
118-105 victory. He also hit five three-pointers.
Brandon
Roy (18.4 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 5.2 APG) almost recorded a triple-double
as he helped lift his team to an overtime victory with his big performance this
week. He had 26 points on 11-for-13 shooting, took eight rebounds, dished out
nine assists, grabbed two steals and blocked a shot as his Portland Trail
Blazers took down the Milwaukee Bucks. He also shot a perfect 4for-4 from the
free throw line in the effort.
