This past week in the NBA was exciting.
Two eastern conference juggernauts clashed in Bean Town as
Boston and Detroit fought down to the last second. The Pistons prevailed on
Chauncey Billups’ two free throws with .1 seconds remaining as the Celtics finally
dropped a game at home. Don’t worry, they still own the league’s best record.
The week saw some of its players getting back on track some
All-Stars returned from injury.
All in all, it was an exciting pre-Christmas week in the
NBA. Here are the four biggest winners from the week that was in the League:
Crazy, crazy Ron
Artest (19.1 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 4.2 APG) had himself a week. He went well over
his normal scoring, getting 23.0 per contest on the week. The man is back to
leading the Sacramento Kings and doing it well. He might be a little off in the
head (I hope he’s not reading this) but let’s be real: the man can flat-out
play. Offense, defense, whatever. He also averaged 2.0 blocks per.
In the absence of Gilbert
Arenas, someone had to step up for the Wizards. Caron Butler (22.0 PPG, 7.0 RPG, 4.2 APG) has been that guy. He’s
getting it done. Butler brings it every night (except that he didn’t play the
last couple games). Besides that, the man is a fantasy monster this year and
kept it going during the week. He upped his “other” stats, grabbing 8.5 boards
and dishing 7.0 assists in his two games. That, of course, included a
triple-double. Baller status.
And then there was Allen – Allen Iverson (26.9 PPG, 3.0 RPG, 7.3 APG) of course. I’m not sure
what’s more surprising: that Iverson is dishing out more than seven assists per
contest or that he’s leading the Denver Nuggets in scoring – more than a free
throw better than Carmello Anthony. This past week, Iverson
stepped it up even more, dropping a robust 36.0 points in three games.
Production.
Dwayne Waaadddeeee, says the commercial. Finally it makes
sense as Dwayne Wade (24.3 PPG, 4.2
RPG, 6.6 APG) has reintroduced himself to the league in the last seven days. A
slow start to begin, and a dying team, Wade has really come on as of late. This
past week he scored 31.8 per, including a last-second big basket against the
Utah Jazz that gave Miami another win – one of just a few, unfortunately.
Christmas week coming up. Check in on From Way Downtown next
week to see who’s been naughty, who’s been nice and who plays more like a
reindeer.
