Living your gimmick: Georgopoulos stuck to his Best Damn Draft Method, waiting until the ninth round to draft his starting QB... and landed Seattle signal-caller Matt Hasselbeck. |
Explain
your pre-draft strategy for this type of draft format
This style of drafting is tailor-made for the Sports Grumblings' Best Damn Draft Method (BDDM), of which I helped to develop. The 2007 update of the BDDM calls for RBs and WR ahead of TE and QB, and that was my goal for this mock.
Explain
the thought process behind your first-round selection
Simply put, Steven Jackson will be the second-best fantasy player in 2007, especially in a PPR league. All his trends are pointing up, and the Rams are no longer the "Greatest Show on Turf"-- they will emphasize the run even more this year.
Which
was your best value pick, and why?
Jerious Norwood in the eighth round, especally as a handcuff to Warrick Dunn. The Falcons perenially lead the NFL in rushing, and I managed to get 2/3 of the rushing attack (minus Vick). Best of all, they represent my RB3/4 combination-- and as such are all upside.
Which
pick would you “do over” if you had the chance, and why?
Amani Toomer. True, he's a low risk-low reward type of selection, but I may have decided to go with Steve Smith of Giants instead, or perhaps locking up another solid QB for trade bait, like Ben Roethlisberger.
Not including yourself, which owner had the best overall draft, and why?
Several teams had decent drafts, but if things fall the right way, Adrianne Lucas' team would be very strong. The running game of McGahee and Rudi Johnson has great potential. Her success may hinge on a rookie-- WR Calvin Johnson. If he produces a Randy Moss or Marvin Harrison type of rookie campaign (no small feat), this team will be in the money.
Not including yourself, which owner had the worst overall draft, and why?
What was Rakowski thinking of? Granted, drafting first overall is difficult to navigate, but to walk away with just one NFL starting RB (Tomlinson) is mind-boggling. If he was not happy taking RBs of value in the 2nd- and 3rd rounds (McAllister doesn't count), he should've doubled up on impact WRs, pairing Holt with someone like Steve Smith (CAR), Reggie Wayne or Roy Williams.
