Discussion between fantasy owners normally hosted by a specific fantasy site. |
| Combination Scoring |
Scoring system that combines Basic Scoring with Performance Scoring. |
| Commissioner |
Final arbiter for a fantasy league. |
| Contract Years |
Method used in some leagues to ensure player movement. A player is awarded a specified
number of "contract years" when he is awarded to a specific team. As each
year goes by his "contract" is reduced by one year. |

The act of kicking the ball from the ground between the goal posts and over the cross bar.
The NFL awards three points for each FG while fantasy leagues generally vary the points
based on distance. |

When a defensive player forces an offensive player to fumble the ball. A FF is awarded
whether the defensive team recovers the fumble or not. |
| Forum |
Sometimes spelled (PH)orum - a bulletin board-like software application that allows
fantasy participants to discuss fantasy or other topics. |

| Free Agency |
The method of adding or removing players from your roster. Free Agents are generally
considered any player not on another owner's roster. |

| General Manager |

| Injured Reserve |
A player status that allows an NFL team to hold the rights to a player while freeing
up a roster spot. Once the player is placed on IR he is ineligible to return to play
in that season. Some fantasy leagues utilize an IR in a similar manner. |

When a defensive player catches a pass thrown by the offense. |

| Keeper League |
A league that allows a specified, usually 3-5, number of players to be retained
from year to year. |
| LB |

| Length of Score Bonus |
Some fantasy leagues base their scoring on the length of a TD. The longer
the TD, the more the points. |
| Linebacker |
Defensive player that plays Outside, Inside or Middle Linebacker. |
| Newsletter |
A method for delivering fantasy information. While some are free,
others can cost up to $60 per year. |
| Owner |
The person who makes all the decisions for a fantasy team. The owner decides
who to draft, who to trade, who to pick up, who to release, who to start, who
to bench and who to keep. Also known as the GM or Head Coach. |

| Performance Scoring |
A method of scoring that awards points for performance. Both positive and
negative points may be added or deducted based on the category of the
statistic being scored. |

The player that kicks FGs and PATs. |

The scoring category where a PK kicks the ball through the uprights and
over the cross bar following a TD. |
| QB |

| Quarterback |
The NFL player that runs an offense. QBs gain more yards and are accountable
for more TDs than their offensive counterparts. |

| Redraft(er) League |
A fantasy league that starts over each season. All players are returned to the
General Player Pool to be re-drafted at the beginning of each year. |

The rec.sport.football.fantasy newsgroup. |
| Running Back |
The NFL player that accounts for most of the rushing yards. |
| Sack |
A Sack is normally accomplished by tackling the quarterback behind the line of
scrimmage on a passing play. One can record a sack by causing the quarterback to fumble the
ball, commonly referred to as stripping the ball, on a pass play as well. |
| Safety |
The act of a defensive player tackling an offensive player behind the offensive
player's goal line. |
| Salary Cap |
A method used to equalize the acquisition of talent amongst fantasy teams. Most
commonly used in Auction Leagues, it can also be used in standard Draft Leagues
where players are pre-assigned specific values. |
| Serpentine |
A method of rotating the draft order where the teams that pick early in the odd
rounds pick late in the even rounds. |
| Sleeper |
A player that is drafted late in the hopes that he will produce as well as those
players drafted much earlier than he. |
| SRB |
The Stud Running Back Theory of drafting. |
| Swing Player |
Also known as a Wild Card Player, this refers to a fantasy starter whose position
is not fixed. For instance you may be required to start one RB and WR and two swing players that may
be from either position (RB or WR). |
| Target |
The number of times a quarterback aimed a pass at a receiver or running back.
This number includes passes that were incomplete, completed and intercepted. |
| TD |

| TE |

| Team Defense |
In fantasy jargon a Team Defense counts as an individual player. The Team
Defense is scored based on defensive or special teams accomplishments. |
| Tight End |
The NFL player that lines up to the outside of the offensive tackle. The TE
is an eligible receiver and usually gains about half the yards and scores
about half the TDs as a normal NFL WR. |
| Touchdown |
When a player crosses their opponent's goal line with the football a touchdown
is scored. In the NFL the team that scores is awarded six points. In fantasy
that award may vary. |
| Trash Talk |
Caustic comments made by one fantasy participant toward one or more others.
Usually somewhat personal in nature. |
| Trade |
The act of giving something of value, be it a player, draft pick or notional
money, to another team for something they have of value. |
| VBD |
The Value Based Theory of Drafting. |
| Wide Receiver |
The NFL player that lines up wide of the offensive formation. This player
may either be on the line (split end) or in the backfield (slot receiver)
and is the primary target of most team's passes. |
| Wild Card Player |

The yards gained after a receiver or running back catches the ball. |
