Despite a lofty $36 price tag, Mojo feels he got a bargain in Larry Johnson.

What is your overall strategy heading into
an Auction-style draft?
I went in thinking I want to
get one of my top three RBs – LaDainian
Tomlinson, Steven Jackson or Larry
Johnson. I set a cap for
them at $40. If all three were to go
for over that then I felt I would still be in a good spot to get other solid
RBs and WRs for cheaper. I also like to
strike fast and then sit back a bit and just bid to drive up prices. I think it is important to make sure no one
else gets a bargain too early. Then I
enjoy being the top dollar max bid guy for a bit and just picking and choosing
my targets and searching for more bargains.
How is this different (if at all) from the
strategy you use in traditional snake drafts?
In traditional snake drafts you have to– and I mean HAVE TO– stock
up at RBs first. RBs drop in auctions
so you can play around with the other positions. Also you really have to watch position tiers. In traditional snake drafts second-string
guys do not come up in the third round like they may in an auction. So you have to monitor how many quality guys
are left at each position every time it swings around.
Other than your
picks, which selection was too pricey in your opinion?
Well with a $100 salary cap I think taking Tomlinson at $59 is a bit high but since he is a clear-cut choice as an elite RB I can forgive it. I think Shaun Alexander is a solid RB but for $39 there was talent to be had for cheaper that matches his, so I think his was a high purchase.
Other than your
picks, which selection was a tremendous value?
With Johnson and Steve Smith going for $20, Torry Holt
going for $19 and Roy Williams for $18, I think seeing Javon Walker slide for $10 is a very nice value. I think he is capable of putting up similar numbers as any of those guys listed before him and at almost half the cost. The same team also secured Anquan Boldin for a mere $13, so I would say they doubled up on WR value.
Which was your
best/worst picks?
I personally feel that Larry Johnson at $36 was a steal after seeing what Tomlinson, Jackson and Alexander went for. But if you want my best pick on a lower scale, I really think Deion Branch at $5 will pay off big time for me and prove to be a huge value.
I got caught in a bidding war for Laveranues Coles, as myself and another team still needed a
solid WR and he was clearly the best talent left. I had the money to spend as my strategy was working to stay in
the lead for max bid, but I did have to spend more than he may be worth.
Which team looks the strongest to you, and
why?
If the Jones’ can perform – Julius
and Thomas – Georgopoulos will have a tough team to beat. I don’t see any elite talent but I do see a
solid core at every position with plenty of upside. Of course I think my team contains the same, plus some elite
talent but I am staying away from voting for myself.
