Cankosyan says that TE Vernon Davis is too soft to be a top fantasy TE.

Stock Up
QB Jon Kitna, Lions
Kitna won’t throw the fifty touchdowns that were joked about
in the pre-season, but he’s a credible QB1.
Mike Martz has created the “Best Show on Turf Part II” in Detroit, and
Kitna has four quality receivers to throw to.
QB Donovan McNabb, Eagles
McNabb came back to Earth last Sunday after two bad games
and a deserved ripping by the press for idiotic comments to James Brown about
African-American quarterbacks. I’d
still trade him in a heart-beat, because you know that he’s going to get hurt
again.
RB Marion Barber, Cowboys
I wish the team would just stop with the pretenses about
this being an RBBC, because it’s pretty clear to me who is the leader of this
committee. Barber’s stats have
progressively gotten better every game and his style is better suited to the
smash-mouth style of the offensive line than Julius Jones.
RB Aaron Stecker, Saints
Keep an eye on him, because he filled in capably for
McAllister a few years ago when Deuce first tore his ACL. Also, he may play more than expected,
because Bush hasn’t proven that he can handle the heavy workload.
WR Kevin Curtis, Eagles
Maybe it’s just one game, but call me a believer. Curtis is a better receiver than Donte
Stallworth, and the latter had a good year last season playing for the
Eagles. Curtis’ slight frame makes him
an injury risk, so don’t over-value him.
Stock Down
RB Steven Jackson, Rams
He looks like he’s going to be this year’s version of Shaun
Alexander. I’m sure any Alexander owner
(I was one) last season remembers this all too well. The guy is supposed to be a monster. The reality is he starts slow, gets hurt, and misses a good chunk
of the season.
RB Larry Johnson, Chiefs
Johnson is not hurt right now. That’s about the only good thing you can say about him, because
he’s killing his owners. After seven
catches in Week One, he hasn’t even produced in that department. I don’t have to tell you that he barely has more
rushing yards than you or me.
RB Clinton Portis, Redskins
I think it’s safe to say that Portis will never be the
monster some of us thought he’d be when he was traded to the ‘Skins a few year
ago. His backup Ladell Betts appears to
be a better fit for the offense, and he’s a much cheaper option for the team,
so I wouldn’t be surprised if this were Portis’ last season with the team.
WR Donte Stallworth, Patriots
Wes Welker (I’m proud that I finally got that right!) has
taken over the WR2 spot opposite Randy Moss and made a bystander of
Stallworth. The latter is supposedly
healthy enough to play this week, but who cares with the stats he’s produced
thus far. Making matters worse is Ben
Watson’s penchant for scoring touchdowns, so Stallworth is the odd man out
right now.
TE Vernon Davis, 49ers
Speaking about 49ers busts (i.e. Alex Smith), this guy is
making me wonder about him. He’s cut up
like a Greek God, but
he plays real soft on the field. He’s
only had one good half so far this season, and he’s going to miss at least the
next two games because of an MCL strain.
Maybe it’s all Alex Smith, but Davis has not lived up to anywhere near
the hype he had after running a sub-4.5
40-yard dash during a pre-draft workout last year.
