Okoye thinks he's hit the rookie wall.
|
Defensive Linemen
Amobi Okoye, Houston Texans
Stats: 20 solos, 4 assists, 5.0
sacks, 0 INT, 1 FF, 0 Pass Def.
Last Week: Bye
Okoye has gone on record with
saying that he believes he is hitting the rookie wall. Regardless, he already has more sacks than
first-overall selection Mario Williams
had during his entire rookie campaign.
Before last week’s bye, Okoye recorded three solo tackles in the
previous two outings. He’s not a
terrible start this week against the rejuvenated Saints, but you may be able to
do better.
Linebackers
Patrick Willis,
San Francisco 49ers
Stats: 64 solos, 24 assists, 0.5
sacks, 0 INT, 1 FF, 2 Pass Def.
Last Week: 5 solos, 0 assists, 0
sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 0 Pass Def.
With the Seahawks run-game pretty
much null, Willis did not have a lot of opportunities to display his talents on
Monday night. While the Rams are not
necessarily a run-first team, Steven Jackson will see a lot more touches than Maurice Morris, allowing for the rookie
linebacker to do his thing. He’s a LB1
from here out and should be started as such.
Jon Beason,
Carolina Panthers
Stats: 56 solos, 16 assists, 0
sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 3 Pass Def.
Last Week: 9 solos, 2 assists, 0
sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 0 Pass Def.
This is back-to-back 11 tackle
games for the Panthers rookie linebacker.
He’s slowly catching up to Willis in terms of solo tackles and may pass
him this week if he can put up a huge game against the Green Bay Packers and
fellow rookie Ryan Grant. Beason’s
big-play potential is very low at this point, but do not be surprised when he
puts up another double-digit set of takedowns this week.
Defensive Backs
LaRon Landry,
Washington Redskins
Stats: 36 solos, 22 assists, 1.5
sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 3 Pass Def.
Last Week: 0 solos, 1 assist, 0
sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 0 Pass Def.
I wish I had an excuse for how bad
Landry’s game was last week. Brian
Westbrook nearly had the ball in his hands on every play, but Landry was not a
factor in the contest. He’s a risky
start this week against the Cowboys, who spread the ball around enough to mix up
tacklers. If you have a better option,
like Eric Wright, we suggest you do so.
Eric Wright, Cleveland Browns
Stats: 64 solos, 4 assists, 1.0
sacks, 1 INT, 0 FF, 8 Pass Def.
Last Week: 12 solos, 0 assists,
1.0 sacks, 0 INT, 0 FF, 1 Pass Def.
Great transition, Scott. Wright now has just as many solo tackles as
Patrick Willis, which is nearly unheard of from a 3-4 cornerback. His end zone pass defended last week was
huge, despite the Steelers coming out with a win. The sack was even better.
Look for the Browns to run the corner blitz a few times this week as it
worked very well against a mobile quarterback.
Even if he’s unsuccessful, you can bank on plenty of tackles – similar
to the last time the Browns faced the Ravens.
