Was last week a turning point for Vince Young as a passer?
|
Teams on bye this
week: None.
Top Performers for Week Eleven
QB
Tom Brady,
Patriots: This is getting monotonous… Brady’s assault on the record books moves onward. The thing that impresses me the most is the apparent ease with which he is playing. Even during Peyton Manning’s record-setting season, there were moments of frustration and/or struggle; I’ve
yet to see any of that with Brady.
Stat Line: 31-39-373, 5 TD passing; 2-9-0 rushing.
Vince Young,
Titans: Probably Young’s best game as a pro passer. There were several times the run was open to him, but he chose to stay in the pocket and make plays with his arm.
Stat Line: 26-41-305, 1 TD passing; 11-74-1 rushing.
Tony Romo,
Cowboys:
Poor Tony Romo. He’s having a career-definining season, yet he has the misfortune of having it during Brady’s dominant season and Brett Favre’s amazing resurgence.
Stat Line: 22-32-293, 4 TD passing; 1-2-0 rushing.
Jason Campbell,
Redskins: This makes two good games in a
row for Campbell. Has he turned the corner? Or is it a matter of Joe Gibbs
trusting him to make more plays? Either way, the next few weeks will be crucial to how his 2008 fantasy stock will be evaluated.
Stat Line: 33-54-348, 2 TD passing; 2-18-0 rushing.
Matt Hasselbeck,
Seahawks: With Alexander injured and
ineffective, any of the Seahawks’ future offensive success will depend solely
on Hasselbeck.
Stat Line: 30-44-337, 2 TD passing; 3-5-0 rushing.
RB
Chester Taylor,
Vikings: Take that Adrian Peterson! Taylor reminded folks that he was a
pretty decent runner last season. Credit also an outstanding run-blocking
offensive line and a horrible-against-the-run Raiders defense, but Taylor is a
solid RB play this late in the season.
Stat Line: 22-164-3 rushing; 3-38-0 receiving,
LaDainian
Tomlinson, Chargers: Certainly
not one of LT2’s more memorable outings, but it was good enough for most
fantasy owners.
Stat Line: 16-62-1 rushing; 5-93-0 receiving,
Jamal Lewis,
Browns: Lewis continues to prove that
being the clear starter in Cleveland is reason enough to plug him into your lineup
as an RB2. Look at his numbers, and the word “plodding” comes to mind… but
plodding = points, which is more than you can say for 80% of the runners in
this RBBC world we live in…
Stat Line: 22-92-1 rushing; 4-30-0 receiving,
Willis McGahee,
Ravens: He hasn’t been spectacular but
McGahee has been everything the Ravens have expected, and he’s done it without
the benefit of any sort of passing game to support him.
Stat Line: 21-102-1 rushing; 2-24-0 receiving,
Joseph Addai,
Colts: Developing into a fine all-around
runner for the World Champs.
Stat Line: 21-72-1 rushing; 4-34-0 receiving.
WR
Terrell Owens,
Cowboys: Look out. Not only is Owens
playing off the charts, he’s feeling so good that he’s picked up the post-game
chatter. Witness his post-game digs at Parcells recently…
Stat Line: 8-173-4 receiving.
Randy Moss,
Vikings: At times, it looks as if he’s
locked into a little game of “anything you can do, I can do better” with Owens.
Stat Line: 10-128-4 receiving.
D.J. Hackett,
Seahawks: Hackett is really developing
quickly. After missing six games due to injury, he has scored in each of his
last three games and improved both his receptions and yards in each of those
three games, totaling 23-295-3.
Stat Line: 9-136-1 receiving.
Santana Moss,
Redskins: Where have you been, Mr. Moss? A monumental fantasy bust this season, there may be a glimmer of fantasy hope down the stretch for Moss owners, as his resurgence may be tied into that of QB
Campbell.
Stat Line: 9-121-1 receiving.
Drew Carter,
Panthers: Sports Grumblings premium members
were alerted to Carter’s sleeper status on Game Day via the Sunday No Huddle alert
from our own Tony Finn. With Steve Smith out of the picture, Carter was the object
of Vinny Testaverde’s squinting eye.
Stat Line: 5-132-1 receiving.
TE
Chris Cooley,
Redskins:
The Redskins’ offense has
been effective—though not all parts at the same time. Cooley has been up and
down all season, much like the RB and WR spots.
Stat Line: 8-89-1 receiving.
Donald Lee,
Packers: If Lee were a little more
consistent, he’d be a top TE in the league. As it is, I’d only recommend him if
you’re playing match-ups or due to your starter’s injury.
Stat Line: 5-49-2 receiving.
Antonio Gates, Chargers: Thanks to the abysmal play
of Philip Rivers, Gates has been suffering for the greater part of the season.
Of course, Gates is still a Top 5 TE, even with all those difficulties.
Stat Line: 4-54-1 receiving.
Jason Witten,
Cowboys: Witten continues his strong play
and figures to be, in essence, Romo’s second option on every deep route to
Owens.
Stat Line: 8-67-0 receiving.
Alex Smith, Bucs: Yea, right…
Stat Line: 3-51-1 receiving.
