RB Justin Fargas has had one of the quietest 1,000 yard seasons in recent memory.

To those of you that rode Tom Brady or
Tony Romo
to your fantasy playoffs, see you next year! Both Brady and Romo had their worst weeks by
far, just when you needed them the most.
The wind and cold had something to do with Brady’s poor performance, but what about Romo? Blame Jessica Simpson.
How many Brian Westbrook owners lost by a touchdown last week? Westbrook did the smart thing for the Eagles by taking a knee at the one-yard line instead of scoring in the final minutes against Dallas on Sunday. But, the right thing to do for the Eagles
was the wrong thing for Westbrook’s fantasy owners. I bet he got some nasty
e-mail last week...
Snap
Dallas WR Terry Glenn should be just
about ready to make his first appearance of the season. If Glenn is activated for Saturday’s game,
he is not likely to start nor play extensively. Don’t expect much in the way of fantasy points.
Both Patriots tight ends could miss Sunday’s game with ankle injuries. If Kyle Brady and Ben Watson can’t go, then practice-squad filler Stephen Spach would play. Watson is the only fantasy option of the
three. Another loss at tight end: Giants’
Jeremy
Shockey was placed on the Injured Reserve, with a broken left fibula.
Jets QB Kellen Clemens will have an MRI on his injured ribs. If he has a cracked rib, then Chad Pennington is the Jets starter this Sunday and probably next week as well. The Jets might be without WR Laveranues Coles again. Coles was a late scratch last week after an off-field injury: Coles was “attacked” by a folding table at the team hotel before Sunday’s game.
That’s pretty indicative of the Jets' season.
Oakland’s Justin Fargas had the one of
the quietest 1,000 yard seasons that a running back can have. Fargas began the season third on the
Raiders’ depth chart, but took over after LaMont Jordan faded and Dominic
Rhodes failed to impress.
Fargas finished with 1,009 yards in only seven starts. Unfortunately the Raiders will have to go back to Jordan and Rhodes for the final two games of the season. Fargas sprained his MCL and
will be shut down. Neither Jordan nor Rhodes is an attractive sleeper against
the Jaguars this week.
Many developments on the IDP
front:
Washington LB Rocky McIntosh suffered a
torn ACL last week against the Giants.
This is a serious injury with a long rehabilitation. McIntosh’s 2007 is over and his 2008 season is very much in jeopardy. He should be cut in all keeper leagues.
Carolina DE Julius Peppers could be out for the season due to a knee injury he suffered last Sunday. It would be a merciful end to a terrible year. Peppers has only three sacks, compared to 13 in 2006.
Denver LB Ian Gold’s knee injury will shut him down for the final two games of the Broncos season.
Miami LB Channing Crowder had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Tuesday, ending his season. At least he went out as a winner.
Crackle
The Redskins receivers would have
been an interesting play against the Minnesota pass defense. However, with Jason Campbell out and Todd Collins
in at quarterback, you can’t risk a start on Santana Moss or Antwaan
Randle El. TE Chris Cooley
is still a great play against the Vikings, even with Collins throwing him the
ball.
RB Clinton Portis had a big day last Sunday against the Giants. Portis has been very inconsistent this season. As such, he is a risky play this week against Minnesota. Portis faces the top run defense in the NFL and a red-hot one at that.
Seattle RB Shaun Alexander would gladly settle for being inconsistent. Instead he has been consistently bad this from October onwards. He has a tough match-up gainst the Ravens defense on Sunday.
Carolina RB DeShaun Foster is losing more
and more carries to DeAngelo Williams as the season progresses. Last week Williams had 17 touches to
Foster's 18. They face a tough Dallas
run defense this Sunday, playing behind a beaten-up offensive line. In a RBBC, neither Foster nor Williams is worth a fantasy start.
Where have you gone Terrell Owens? TO has been essentially MIA for two weeks straight. He has only five receptions the past two weeks and no scores. Not surprisingly, TO has begun to gripe about not getting the ball enough.
Don’t use Dallas safety Roy Williams in your IDP leagues this week. He will be serving a one-game suspension pending an appeal. Williams’ repeated use of the "horse collar" tackle earns him a view from the sidelines in
Carolina.

The Browns-Bengals game should be a very high scoring affair. It pits two of the worst defenses in the NFL
against very talented quarterbacks (Carson Palmer and Derek Anderson.) The weather forecast is pretty decent for
Cincinnati in December, so don’t expect another stinker from Anderson like last week’s debacle. In their Week Two match-up, a 51-45 Cleveland win, Jamal Lewis ran for 216 yards, Anderson tossed five TD passes and Palmer had six TDs. Three receivers topped 100 yards in that game: Chad Johnson (209), Braylon
Edwards (146) and Kellen Winslow (100). Expect more
fireworks.
I like Arizona QB Kurt Warner against the reeling Falcons. Warner will have both wide receivers, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, in the lineup against an Atlanta team in disarray after losing head coach Bobby
Petrino. The Falcons have
lost five in a row and have surrendered at least 28 points in each of those
defeats.
It’s time to get on the Aaron Stecker bandwagon. The New Orleans running back has been terrific in his first two starts of the season. Stecker has 248 total yards and two touchdowns in that span. Reggie Bush figures to either sit or play sparingly, so Stecker is the man against the Eagles.
The Giants are in the middle of their annual December swoon. They need to win one of their final two games to lock in a wildcard spot. They face New England in week 17, so they really need to take care of business in Buffalo this Sunday. The Bills have one of the softest defenses in the league, particularly against the pass, so expect the Giants wide receivers to pick up the slack for the injured Shockey. Wide receivers Plaxico Burress and Armani Toomer are inconsistent, but the match-up makes them worthwhile
options.
The Patriots rediscovered RB Laurence Maroney last week against the Jets. The conditions dictated the game plan, and Maroney responded with 104 rushing yards and a score. Maroney is a great play against the league’s worst run defense, Miami’s. WR Jabar Gaffney appears to have moved ahead of Donte Stallworth on the New England depth chart.
Quick hits: Jaguars RB Fred Taylor to continue his hot running versus the Raiders 31st ranked run defense; Titans RB LenDale White to rumble for big yards against the Jets; Lions RB Kevin Jones to bounce back
against the Chiefs; Eagles QB Donovan
McNabb and WR Kevin Curtis to exploit the Saints pass defense.
