Top Performers for Week Fifteen
DL
Kelly Gregg, Ravens: Gregg is one of those players that is surprisingly effective, but that gets no noteriety. Witness his 73 tackles and three sacks on the season. If you're in a league that requires you to start defensive tackles specifically, then Gregg's value goes up even more.
Stat Line:
Mario Williams,
Texans: Boy, has Williams value gone up or what? Not only is Williams challenging for the season sack crown, but his play has people wondering if the Texans actually knew what they were doing when they passed on Reggie Bush and Vince Young to draft Williams #1 overall last year.
Stat Line: 5-2-3.
Justin Tuck, Giants: The play of Tuck this season has got to have the Giants brass feeling comfortable about the day when Michael Strahan decides to retire. Tuck has been the Giants most consistently effective lineman, and I inlcude both Strahan and Osi Umenyiora when I say that. In a keeper league? You might want to consider stashing Tuck on your off-season roster.
Stat Line: 7-1-1.
Jason Taylor, Dolphins: Really glad that Taylor had a good performance during the Dolphins thrilling OT victory, their first of the season. One can only hope that the Dolphins will take mercy on Taylor and trade him to a contender next season.
Stat Line: 4-0-2.
Andre Carter, Redskins: Carter has these cycles when you are reminded that he was once a dominant pass rusher; then much like a stomach cramp, it passes and you feel better.
Stat Line: 4-0-2; 1 FF.
LB
Nick Barnett, Packers: Barnett has been playing outstanding football this season, averaging almost 11 total stops a game. He's very active, knows how to tackle and forms a very good tandem with A.J. Hawk. He'll be a top five pick at his position next season.
Stat Line: 13-0-2.
David Thornton,
Titans: After two seasons where Thornton underperformed expectations, he's put together a solid season, but it's been one of those "tackle-only" years-- meaning that all he does is tackle, and he needs to be part of an IDP LB corps that features another backer who canget to the QB.
Stat Line: 8-2-0; 1 INT.
Brian Urlacher, Bears: Urlacher's stats are pretty good-- but I guarantee you that all those marks that drafted him in the Top Five are seriously disappointed. Unless, of course, you heeded Mighty Max when he told you that Urlchaer has been living off his rep for the past three seasons.
Stat Line: 4-2-2; 1 FR; 1 INT.
Scott Fujita,
Saints: Fujita has been a nice waiver pick up, posting solid performances all season long. He's not a starter in most formats, but an an emergency fill-in, you could do worse...
Stat Line: 7-3-2; 1 FF.
Keith Brooking,
Falcons: Another typically solid outing for Brooking, who is on pace for a 112-25-2 season... which is pretty much what he does every season.
Stat Line: 10-5-0.
DB
Gerald Alexander, Lions: The rookie has had a pretty anonymous season thus far, but I suppose if you're playing free safety when the opponent rings up 51 points, you're bound to get a few tackles credited to your ledger...
Stat Line: 13-2-0.
Oshiomogho Atogwe, Rams: Atogwe ruined what was an otherwise good game for Brett Favre by picking off two passes from the future Hall of Famer. Atogwe now has a career-high seven INT for the year to go along with his 77 stops. That, my friends, is not bad for a safety who might still be sitting on your league's waiver wire.
Stat Line: 4-0-0; 2 INT.
Atari Bigby, Packers: This is Bigby's first season as a starter in the NFL, and the young man has not wasted his opportunity. With over 100 total tackles this season and four interceptions, Bigby has been one of the reasons that the Packers' defense can be very tough.
Stat Line: 3-1-0; 2 INT.
Lawyer Milloy,
Falcons: Sometimes I really wonder if we'd all be better off if the Falcons either (a) asked Milloy to retire or (b) asked him to play linebacker, which is what I suspect Milloy's always wanted to do...
Stat Line: 11-1-0.
Charles Tillman, Bears: A disappointing season by Tillman, who was likely drafted in many leagues with the expectations of five or six INTs along with 90-100 tackles.
Stat Line: 11-1-0.
