Does John David Booty have a shot at starting in '08?

2/12 Tyrell Johnson, DB, Arkansas State

Originally slated as a nickel back and the eventual replacement for veteran Darren Sharper, it appears star status could come sooner to Johnson than previously thought. Madieu Williams, the often-injured ex-Bengal, will be out for up to six weeks with a neck injury, leaving Johnson as the prime candidate to take his spot. With the athletic Johnson and seasoned Sharper manning the back of the defense, the Vikings’ could be scoring more touchdowns on both sides of the ball.

5/2 John David Booty, QB, USC

Coming out of college, scouts marveled at Booty’s touch and accuracy, while stating him as one of the most, if not the most Pro-ready quarterbacks in the draft. While the pre-season may just be an aberration, throwing picks for touchdowns doesn’t necessarily tell fans you’re ready to play. While he’s likely a long way from seeing any action, he still has some upside down the road, especially if Tavaris Jackson continues to not pan out.

5/17 Letroy Guion, DT, Florida State

Guion isn’t just a regular camp body, but he’s unlikely to have any kind of an impact any time soon. He was brought in as insurance, just in case either Pat or Kevin Williams go down with injury. It’s hard to find good, hard-working defensive tackles in the league, so Guion has a good chance of sticking in Minnesota.

6/21 John Sullivan, C, Notre Dame

It’s hard to imagine how Notre Dame only won three games last year, with so much talent on their team reaching the NFL. Sullivan is an insurance pick for one of the best centers in the game, Matt Birk.

6/27 Jaymar Johnson, WR, Jackson State

It feels crazy to say it, but Johnson has almost no shot of seeing any action this year as a receiver. Apparently, guys like Robert Ferguson are just that good. Actually, Johnson will be looked at hard as a return man, but is just too small at 6’0’’, 175 lbs to make a serious run at any of the receiver spots.
