Strange
week for the defensive linemen, as Robaire
Smith, Anthony Hargrove and Daniel
Muir are not guys that are on anybody’s radar and likely won’t be anytime
soon. Justin Smith is a quality
lineman and Andre Carter is having a
nice bounce-back season… he’s already matched last season’s production.

Talk
about a huge debut! Newly-acquired Will
Witherspoon certainly paid immediate dividends for the Eagles, who may have
acquired the key component to get them over the hump in the NFC East. The
Steelers are always a good bet to place an LB amongst the Top Performers; James Farrior isn’t a surprise, but Keyaron Fox’s pick for a TD certainly
was. Tim Dobbins’ performance was an
eye-opener, but he’s not a starter and his game against the Chiefs represented
over one-third of his production
year-to-date. Calvin Pace’s return
from a league-imposed suspension bodes well for the Jets’ defense, which now
has its playmaker back.

Tracy Porter is a sophomore DB
that has some potential as an IDP backup, but he still needs to improve a bit
before entering the DB1/DB2 tier; Leon
Hall, however, is already in that tier and on his way to becoming a solid
DB1. On pace to post his third consecutive season of improving fantasy stats,
Hall is a corner who has delivered both the tackles and INTs. Despite his fluky-looking
stat line last week, safety Brandon Meriweather is someone I’d
consider a solid bye week or injury fill-in. Also a sophomore, Meriweather
needs to up his tackle numbers before becoming an IDP starter—a must for a safety.
Look, I don’t know who Jacob Lacey is,
which means you shouldn’t either. I do know who Darren Sharper is, however; so does everyone else in fantasy
football and the NFL. The veteran big-play safety is a must-start every week
that he’s healthy: he’s averaging an INT per game, and a TD every other game.
Think about that: Sharper has more TDs than Steven Jackson, Brandon Jacobs, Clinton Portis and Brian Westbrook. That’s impressive for
Sharper, embarrassing for those runners.
