I hate Brett Favre.I’m not saying he’s a bad person or anything but I can’t stand the media
circus that surrounds him.Or the media
attention that he seems to want to generate.“I’m retiring”.Tears.“I’m not retiring I’m going to play for the
Jets”.Major sports media every where
covers the event.“I’m retiring
again. This time for good.”Tears.Media “uncovers” that Favre has rented an apartment in Minnesota.“I’m not retiring”.More major
sports media coverage.I even hate the
fact that because of Brett Favre I’m sitting here giving him MORE print.Either way, I’ve let my Anti-Favreness (if
that’s a word) severely hamper my judgement especially when it comes to picking
the Vikings to win.I’ve got to face the
fact that Minnesota is a really strong team and that Favre is becoming close to
an every week fantasy start in that offense. That’s right, I said an every week starter which means he’s a top 10
quarterback.I’m still waiting in great
anticipation for the Ol’ Gunslinger to come out and toss three interceptions in
a game.This will happen.I think...
On to this week’s Wonders.Previous week Wonders that still might be out
there and still make for a decent pick up: Ahmad
Bradshaw, Visanthe Shiancoe, LeSean
McCoy, Shonn Greene and Michael Crabtree
Standard Leagues
Ryan Moats –RB – Texans
Although
the Buffalo Bills have an awful run defense, the benching of Steve Slaton and
the subsequent stellar performance by back up Ryan Moats can not be
ignored.A few things to consider.Slaton was benched in Sunday’s game after he
fumbled the ball.Moats came in and
amassed 151 total yards including three touchdowns. At the very least he scored the most points
probably this season not on someone’s roster. That’s right, he was likely on every waiver wire, everywhere. Now, again you can’t get too excited about
Moats, although he is likely the best pick up available this week.Slaton will likely still get a second chance
and in my opinion, Moats will at least be splitting carries next week. However, this week’s outing obviously shows
the Moats belongs on a lot of rosters as a fantastic speculative pick up.
Dustin Keller - TE –
Jets
I
wasn’t sure Keller belonged in the ‘Standard’ section but this is a vote from
yours truly that he’ll eventually belong here and you should pick him up as
such. After being ignored the last few
weeks, Keller broke out for 8 receptions 76 yards and a touchdown. There was an interesting statistic in the
preseason that states that many rookie quarterbacks tend to rely on their tight
ends. The idea is when Mark Sanchez
gets in trouble, or misses a play they can always dump off to the Keller.
Keller is an outstanding receiving tight end.I still think by the end of the year he will have some decent value
especially if the Jet’s receiving core misses time.
Jamaal Charles – RB –
Chiefs
With
Larry Johnson’s career in Kansas City likely nearing an end, Charles is the
obvious full time successor to his carries. If you didn’t read about it, LJ was caught putting nasty comments on his
Twitter account.The Chiefs organization
has all but written him off.In steps
Charles who in limited carries is averaging about 5.0 YPC.Charles should prove to be useful for a bye
week fill in at RB.My guess is a lot of
play will be giving to Kolby Smith as
well so deeper leaguers should pick him up as well.
Deeper Leagues
Justin Fargas - RB – Raiders
Its not exactly a secret that the Oakland Raiders are
quite possibly the worst team in football. There is heavy competition for the designation but the Raiders are a
mess as an organization as well.It says
a lot about the state of mind for your team when your QB (JaMarcus Russell) was happy about his 109 yards receiving in
Sunday’s game.Needless to say the
Raiders are going to need to scare opponents defenses some how and I believe
that will come from Justin Fargas.Fargas is not for shallow leaguers as despite the Raiders commitment to
running the ball (because of a lack of other offensive weapons) this is not an
effective running team.However, Fargas
is the starter and I don’t think incumbent starter Darren McFadden will be back any time soon.Fargas managed 79 total yards with 3
receptions and a touchdown against the Chargers. Before using a high waiver pick on him,
remember he’s also on a bye week this week
Fred Davis – TE
-Redskins
With
Chris Cooley out for the season, the
Redskins will need someone to fill in at Tight End.Davis
should fill in nicely as he’s got decent hands and a gigantic opportunity.Again, Davis
is a speculative pick up more for deep leagues who may be hurting at TE now
that both Cooley and Owen Daniels are
out.He’s amassed 123 yards receiving
with a touch down in limited time thus far.
