Cedric Benson charged with misdemeanor assault
FANTASY INSIGHT:
Bengals running back Cedric Benson was arrested Tuesday in Austin, Tex. and charged with misdemeanor assault for allegedly punching a bar employee in the face nearly a month ago, according to the Associated Press. Benson was booked into the Travis County jail, where he later posted bail and was released, authorities said. (AP)

Bengals Re-Sign Benson

The Cincinnati Bengals have re-signed running back Cedric Benson, the team announced.
The former first-round draft pick ran for 747 yards in a dozen games this past season for the Bengals.
Benson's new two-year contract with the Bengals is worth $7 million, according to the NFL Network.

Benson played in 35 games with 12 starts for the Bears from 2005-07, rushing for 1593 yards on 420 carries (3.8) with 10 TDs. He also had 26 receptions for 180 yards. According to an Austin, Texas, city council member, former Bears running back Cedric Benson is going to sign with the Lions. In a report by News 8 Austin, a 24-hour news channel in Texas, Austin city council member Mike Martinez and Benson, a former Texas Longhorns back, were supposed to announce a program by Benson's charity to help children get winter coats, but Benson was not in Austin for the announcement. Texans, Saints interested in Benson

Former Bears running back Cedric Benson, released by the team June 9 after two alcohol-related off-season arrests, said Saturday he has a tryout with the Houston Texans this week. Benson also said by phone he'd had a workout with the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago and that it "went well." Is Cedric Benson headed to the Texans?
FANTASY INSIGHT:
A rumor recently surfaced on the TexansTalk message board that former Chicago Bears running back Cedric Benson was in the Houston area and that he was telling people that he was closest in his talks with the Texans.
Clearly the Texans situation would be appealing to Benson. He would be close to home and playing in front of a crowd that includes Longhorn fans who may be inclined to give him another chance. Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator for the Texans played on the same University of Texas team as Benson.
And most importantly, the Texans have a need for better running back play. Their group of backs is still not where you want it to be for a team that aspires to dominate in the running game. (sports.aol.com)
