from
1)Tampa Bay (from Oak) - Calvin Johnson, WR - Georgia Tech - Knowing CJ won't last to the #4 selection, Tampa trades it, plus the #36 pick and their first pick in '08 to the Raiders for the #1 pick. Joey Galloway is aging like fine wine, but he can't keep it up forever. And Michael Clayton seems light years removed from his rookie breakout season of '04. CJ is a freak and has limitless potential. In a few years this will look like a steal.

from
2)Cleveland (from Det) - JaMarcus Russell, QB - LSU - Cleveland trades the #3 pick and #67 pick + a second round pick in 2008 to Detroit for the #2 pick. The Browns desperately want a QB, and Cleveland's GM Phil Savage knows Russell from way back in the day. All the Adrian Peterson stuff you have heard is a smokescreen. Russell is the Browns' guy..

from
3) Detroit (from Cle) - Joe Thomas, OT - Wisconsin - GM Matt Millen makes a smart move, trading down from number two and still getting the guy he wants in Thomas. The Lions decide to go with a franchise left tackle, in hopes that Thomas can protect a future franchise QB, whenever that comes along.

from
4)Oakland (from TB) - Brady Quinn, QB - Notre Dame - The Raiders decide to keep Randy Moss, so they pass on Calvin Johnson. My hunch is that they have been targeting Quinn all along, and talking up Johnson and Russell to get the best deal to trade down. Despite all the criticism, Quinn is the best all-around QB in this draft and can start right away. Oakland is now set at QB, after regretting their decision to pass on Matt Leinart last year. The Bucs' second-round pick in this draft and their first pick in '08 will serve the Raiders well in re-building their franchise.

from
5)Pittsburgh (from Arz) - Levi Brown, OT - Penn St. - The Steelers trade OT Max Starks and the #15 pick to Arizona for the #5 pick. Starks is causing problems with the new Steeler coaches, and is re-united with OL coach Russ Grimm in the desert. The Steelers are high on Brown and figure he's an upgrade on Starks anyway. In the meantime, Starks replaces the departed Leonard Davis in 'Zona's o-line and the #15 pick allows the Cards to address other needs.

from
6)Chicago (from Was) - Leon Hall, CB - Michigan - The Bears finally give Lance Briggs his wish, sending him to Washington where overpaid players go to fritter out their careers. The Bears swap the #31 pick and Briggs for the #6 pick and select Hall, the best corner in this draft. Hall is already better than Peanut Tillman and starts for the awesome Bears defence in '07. Chicago might shop this pick to teams that like Gaines Adams, Amobi Okoye and Jamaal Anderson, but if they keep this pick they'll take Hall, since it's the secondary they need to address.

7)Minnesota - Gaines Adams, DE - Clemson - The Vikings are fortunate to have a great lineman that they need fall into their lap. Hopefully he's not another Kunechi Udeze. Gesundheit.

from
8)Atlanta (from Hou) - Jamaal Anderson, DE - Arkansas - This swap is from the earlier Matt Schaub trade, it's not mine -- The Falcons need to revamp the defensive line and grab a hot prospect in Anderson, who has rocketed up the boards. There's no chance Atlanta gets this guy if they had stayed at #10. Good work.

9)Miami - LaRon Landry, S - LSU - A lot of people figure the Fins will go with defence, and Landry is a great addition to the Miami secondary.

from
10)Houston (from Atl) - Adrian Peterson, RB - Oklahoma - Time to get the franchise RB the Texans need to build around, and Peterson drops right into their lap, too. This makes up for passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young, right? Nah.

11)San Francisco - Amobi Okoye, DT - Louisville - The Niners go for help on defence. Okoye may be one of the best prospects in this draft.

12)Buffalo - Marshawn Lynch, RB - California - The Bills need a RB with the trade of Willis McGahee to the Ravens. They may be one of the teams trying to trade for Chargers backup RB Michael Turner. I think San Diego's asking price of a 1st round and a 3rd round pick is too high, so the Bills counter by drafting McGahee's replacement with this pick.

13)St. Louis - Patrick Willis, LB - Mississippi - The Rams grab a player rocketing up the boards. If it weren't for team needs, Willis could be gone at this point. The team above the Rams, Buffalo, could easily go for Willis if it weren't for a glaring RB need. The Bears could trade down a bit as well and grab Willis. In this mock, the Rams are lucky enough to get him. We'll see how this plays out on April 28th.

14)Carolina - Paul Posluszny, LB - Penn St. - Carolina doesn't have the option to get a QB here, so unless they trade down, they go for defence. MLB Dan Morgan's career is teetering due to injuries, so Posluszny is the Panthers' insurance for him.

from
15)Arizona (from Pit) - Alan Branch, DT - Michigan - After trading down with the Steelers, Arizona gets lucky and grabs a guy who could've been a top 10 pick, but drops. Branch is a serious load and a run-stopper for years to come.

16)Green Bay - Adam Carriker, DE - Nebraska - Carriker can play DT and DE, and has a real motor. The Pack continue to re-build the defence.

17)Jacksonville - Reggie Nelson, S - Florida - The Jags are really happy to see Nelson drop in this mock. He'll step in and be the starting free safety in '08 opposite Donovan Darius.

18)Cincinnati - Darelle Revis, CB - Pitt - The Bengals need help in their secondary, with Tory James out as a free agent and Deltha O'Neal fading fast. Revis teams with last year's first pick Jonathan Joseph to form a lethal combination for years to come.

19)Tennessee - Robert Meachem, WR - Tennessee - The Titans need to give Vince Young some aerial weapons, especially after losing Drew Bennett to the Rams. Meachem is a star in the making, he and Young should make beautiful music in Nashville.

20)New York Giants - Aaron Ross, CB - Texas - The Giants need to address their secondary. Sam Madison is getting long in the tooth, and Ross should fit in nicely.

21)Denver - Michael Griffin, S - Texas - Mike Shanahan knows he must be prepared for the eventual loss of John Lynch. Griffin is groomed for one season and then takes over.

22)Dallas - Arron Sears, OT - Tennessee - The Cowboys' O-line was horrendous. Even after getting Leonard Davis in free agency, Tony Romo needs more protection. So they take Sears to help anchor the line.

23)Kansas City - Ben Grubbs, G - Auburn - The Chiefs need help on the offensive line, and fast. Grubbs will step in and offset the loss of Will Shields to retirement.

from
24)New England (from Sea) Joe Staley, OT - Central Michigan - This is the pick they got for Deion Branch. I wish things worked out for me as good as they do for the Pats...

25)New York Jets - Greg Olsen, TE - Miami - The Jets go with a Shockey-like TE from the "U" with Olsen.

26)Philadelphia - Jarvis Moss, DE - Florida - Moss has great potential, very similar to Jevon Kearse. Philly addresses a need on the defensive line, but could easily go for a LB here as well.

27)New Orleans - Jon Beason, LB - Miami - Beason has moved up draft boards, and the Saints need to build their 'D' up, starting at linebacker.

28)New England - Lawrence Timmons, LB - Florida St. - The Patriots address a need in the middle of their defence with Timmons. Despite the pickup of free-agent Adalius Thomas, Bruschi and Seau are entering the twilight of their careers. Timmons is a building block for the future.

29)Baltimore - Justin Blaylock, OT - Texas - Is it possible 2007 will be Jonathan Ogden's last year? The Ravens hope not, but take Blaylock for insurance.

30)San Diego - Brandon Meriweather, S - Miami -The Bolts replace the departing Terrence Kiel with another player with off-field issues. But Meriweather has a greater upside that's too good to resist.

from
31)Washington (from Chi) - Dwayne Jarrett, WR - USC - The Skins decide maybe Atwaan Randle-El isn't really that good. Jarrett could be. He teams with Jason Campbell to form a great young passing tandem.

32)Indianapolis - Chris Houston, CB - Arkansas - Houston is a great prospect, and the Colts have to replace Nick Harper, lost to free agency.

I love this draft!!!!

The top picks actually make sense and I like WHERE the players are landing.(good fits) Speaking as a Denver fan, I would rather have Brandon Meriweather from Miami than Griffin but they are both quality DBs with great up-side.

Thanks for the mock. Smile
