Zips vs. Redhawks...
For the second time in a week, the Akron Zips will be playing on a Wednesday
night when they invade Oxford, OH to take on the MAC East leading Redhawks.
This spot was very good to them their last time out as they went on to defeat
Ohio by a 48-37 final count to snap their 3-game losing streak. The 48-point
outburst by the Zips was their highest scoring output of the season, and they’ll
look to play the role of spoiler this evening. As for Miami, this will be their
first game in 11 days after they took care of the upstart Buffalo Bulls by three
points back on November 3rd. They currently sit with a bird’s eye view
atop the MAC East standings, and hold their post-season destiny in their own
hands.
A win by Miami tonight and a Bowling Green loss to Buffalo on Saturday would
propel the Redhawks into the MAC Championship game Dec. 1 vs. Central Michigan.
Pulling off a worst to first season would be quite a feat considering HC Montgomery’s
Redhawks went a woeful 2-10 SU last year. The 2007 season has been a much different
story for the perennial MAC Championship contenders. It all began way back on
August 30th when they went into Muncie, IN and knocked off Ball State by a 14-13
final count. They let it be known right then and there that they won’t
be playing the matador type style of defense they exhibited in ’06 after
clamping down on Cardinal offense that averaged 28 PPG the year before. They’ve
dealt with numerous amounts of injuries this year once again, but the character
of the players and coaching staff has allowed the Redhawks ship to stay afloat.
Oddsmakers have deemed the Redhawks 9-points better than Akron in this spot,
and the ‘Total’ is yet to be released. This series has seen the
home team win 8 of the L/11 ATS, and the favorite has gone a perfect 5-0 ATS
the L/5 meetings. Miami was pounded as 7.5-point underdogs in the Rubber Bowl
last season, so they’ll be out for revenge in tonight’s home finale.
SLAM YOUR MAN!!!
