The Chicago Blackhawks agreed to terms with Finnish goalie Antti Niemi on Monday. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound Niemi went 26-6-14 with a 2.35 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage in 49 games last season -- his third with the Pelicans of the SM-Liiga, the Finnish Elite League. "Antti is one of the top European goaltenders," Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon said in a statement. (AP)

The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday signed center Nathan Gerbe.
FANTASY INSIGHT:
Gerbe, 20, who was selected in the fifth round (142nd overall) in 2005, recently completed his junior season with the NCAA Champion Boston College Eagles.
The 5-6, 160-pound Gerbe led the nation in scoring last season with 35 goals and 33 assists in 43 games, five more than the Hobey Baker award winner Kevin Porter of Michigan. (Yahoo! News)

Forward Nathan Gerbe signed a three-year deal potentially worth $2.55 million with the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, electing to forgo his senior season at Boston College.
A fifth-round pick in the 2005 NHL draft, the 5-foot-5 Gerbe overcame questions about his lack of size by leading the nation with 68 points (35 goals and 33 assists) in 43 games for the national champion Eagles last season. (AP)
