FANTASY INSIGHT:
The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free agent forward Tim Kennedy on Monday.

The 24-year-old had 10 goals and 16 assists last season with Buffalo in 78 games. He also had a goal and two assists in the playoff for the Sabres. (AP)

Oilers sign Gagner to a two-year deal

FANTASY INSIGHT:
General Manager Steve Tambellini announced today the Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with centre Sam Gagner on a two-year deal.

Gagner, 21, appeared in 68 games last season for the Oilers scoring 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points.

The 5'11", 191-pound London, Ontario native has three seasons under his belt after having put up 49 points (13G, 36A) in his rookie year, where he was named to the 2008 NHL YoungStars Game in Atlanta. He scored 41 points (16G, 25A) in his sophomore year. (NHL.com)

Maple Leafs Acquire Matt Lashoff In Trade

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Friday that the hockey club has acquired defenceman Matt Lashoff from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for forwards Alex Berry and Stefano Giliati.

In 63 career NHL games with Tampa Bay and Boston, the 6-2, 204 pound defenceman has tallied 16 points on one goal and 15 assists along with 53 minutes in penalties. In 2003-04, he was named to the OHL’s Second All-Rookie team while playing for Kitchener and in 2006-07 was selected to the AHL All-Rookie team while playing with Providence. Lashoff was Boston’s first choice, selected 22nd overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft. (NHL.com)

F MacArthur signs 1-year deal with Maple Leafs

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Brian Burke, president and general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Saturday that the hockey club has signed unrestricted free agent forward Clarke MacArthur to a one-year contract.

The 6-0, 191-pound forward has played in 208 career NHL games with Atlanta and Buffalo collecting 44 goals and 44 assists for 88 points along with 129 minutes in penalties. (NHL.com)

Kariya to miss season with post-concussion syndrome

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Kariya's agent Don Baizley revealed the Kariya won't be joining the Ducks or anyone else. From the NHLPA:

"Paul Kariya will not play hockey during the 2010/11 season. After being examined by concussion specialist Dr. Mark Lovell, Paul is not able to play hockey due to post-concussion syndrome."

The AP noted that Kariya missed six games in December and January after suffering a concussion, and he's had a history of concussions -- including one that kept him from the 1998 Winter Olympics. (AP)

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Free agent forward Raffi Torres signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks, the team said Wednesday.

Torres split last season between Columbus and Buffalo, scoring 19 goals and getting 17 assists in 74 games. (AP)

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Willie Mitchell's summer of hard work recuperating from a severe concussion paid off Wednesday when he signed a new contract with the Los Angeles Kings.

After four seasons as a Vancouver Canuck, the 33-year-old defenseman signed a two-year deal with the Kings for a reported US$3.5 million per season. The deal ended half a year of uncertainty about Mitchell's NHL career after he was crushed into the boards by Penguins star Evgeni Malkin on Jan. 16 in Pittsburgh. (Canadian Press)

Steve Downie gets two-year deal with Tampa Bay

FANTASY INSIGHT:
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced they signed the restricted free-agent winger to a two-year, $3.7 million deal.

Downie, 23, showed maturity to go with his skill and toughness last season, his first with the Lightning, and finished with 22 goals, 24 assists, a team-best plus-14 and a 19.0 shooting percentage that was tied for fourth in the NHL. (Sporting News)

D Aaron Ward retires

FANTASY INSIGHT:
Three-time Stanley Cup champion Aaron Ward is calling it a career after 14 seasons in the National Hockey League.

The veteran defenceman and native of Windsor, Ont., had a third surgery on his knee after the 2009-2010 campaign and said he would not be ready to go for the start of next season.

Ward won two Stanley Cups in Detroit (1997, ’98) and one in Carolina (2006). In 839 career NHL games, Ward put up 44 goals, 107 assists and 736 penalty minutes. (AP)
