Boston's goalie struggles...

Rumors, moves, injuries and newsmakers...
Boston's
goalie struggles; Perry out for the Ducks; Florida goes back to Vokoun;
Halak to start first game; Boucher injured again; Murray re-signs; and
more...
DOUBTING THOMAS
What has happened to Boston Bruins netminder Tim Thomas?
The 33-year-old veteran, who played in the 2008 NHL All-Star Game
in Atlanta in late January, has suddenly become a major liability for
the B's. In his last two outings, blowout losses to the Washington
Capitals (10-2) and Toronto Maple Leafs (8-2), Thomas has surrendered
12 goals on 47 shots. In between, backup Alex Auld lost a 1-0 decision to the Florida Panthers in overtime.
Since the Bruins play two games this weekend (Saturday at home against
the Caps and Sunday at the New York Rangers), expect Auld to get at
least one of the two starts. Furthermore, projected starting netminder Manny Fernandez
(knee surgery--IR) is practicing again with the team and may be able to
return before the end of the regular season. Therefore, Thomas will be
pushed for playing time the rest of the way. Can the struggling Bruin
get it together again when his team needs him most? Or has the great
Tim Thomas success story neared its end?
SLICED DUCK
Anaheim Ducks winger Corey Perry
will miss the next six weeks of playing time because of a lacerated
tendon in his quad muscle that required surgery. The injury was caused
by the skate of Colorado goalie Jose Theodore on Thursday. INTEL: This is a huge blow to the Ducks, who will now turn to AHL prospect Bobby Ryan to step into Perry's top-six role.
FLEURY OF SHOTS
Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury allowed three goals on 20 Florida shots on Thursday, and was pulled after one period in favor of Ty Conklin. INTEL:
After winning two games in a row, Fleury is back to his inconsistent
ways. Expect Conklin to get the start Sunday afternoon at Washington.
LEOPOLD SCRATCHED
Colorado Avalanche defenseman Jordan Leopold was scratched from the lineup in Thursday night's 1-0 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. INTEL: With Jeff Finger back in the lineup, someone had to sit and coach Joel Quenneville wanted a more physical lineup against Anaheim. Expect Leopold to be back in the lineup soon.
ANDERSON SNUBBED
Florida Panthers goaltender Craig Anderson will sit in favor of regular starter Tomas Vokoun on Saturday night against the Atlanta Thrashers. INTEL:
After posting back-to-back 1-0 shutouts, Anderson surrendered two goals
to the Penguins in a 5-2 win on Thursday. This decision is a little
peculiar, though Vokoun is still clearly the team's No. 1 goalie moving
forward.
WHITE OUT
Atlanta Thrashers center Todd White was once again out of the lineup Friday night against Minnesota because of his recurring elbow/shoulder problem. INTEL: White returned from a two-game absence earlier in the week but is again down for the count. This opens the door for rookie Bryan Little to show his mettle at the NHL level.

BOOST FOR BOBBY
The Anaheim Ducks recalled winger Bobby Ryan from the AHL's Portland Pirates on Friday. INTEL: He'll replace the injured Corey Perry in the Ducks lineup. Ryan, the No. 2 overall pick behind Sidney Crosby in the 2005 draft, has not done much with his previous NHL chances but Anaheim needs him to step up this time around.

HALAK IN
Montreal Canadiens backup goaltender Jaroslav Halak will make his first start of 2007-08 on Saturday afternoon against the Los Angeles Kings. INTEL: Carey Price will continue to be the man down the stretch, but expect Halak to play in back-to-back game scenarios.

BOUCHER OUT AGAIN
Dallas Stars defenseman Philippe Boucher
suffered a separated shoulder in Wednesday's loss to the Phoenix
Coyotes, and is expected to miss the next three weeks of action. INTEL:
This time, Boucher injured his right shoulder. He returned to the
lineup on February 26 after a 38-game absence due to left shoulder
surgery. He has no luck at all.
ROY SENT HOME
The Tampa Bay Lightning have sent enforcer Andre Roy home without suspension. Roy gave a throat-slash gesture to the Flyers on Thursday night. INTEL: AHL call-up Karl Stewart will replace Roy in the Bolts lineup, though he will provide fewer penalty minutes.
MORE FOR MURRAY
Columbus Blue Jackets rookie forward Andrew Murray has signed a three-year contract extension worth a reported $1.87 million. INTEL: Murray is your garden-variety fourth liner, so there isn't a lot of fantasy impact here.
