Bills reach for need

After trading Willis McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens, Marv Levy and his staff reached for need and acquired Marshawn Lynch

10

Houston (from Falcons)

Amobi Okoye

DT

Louisville

6-2

302

8th overall

Thoughts: The Texans get a quality defensive lineman with a lot of ability and upside. The Texans are building a nice, young defense that will be one of the leagues best in a couple of years. Last year, the Texans added Mario Williams and DeMeco Ryans and with the selection of Okoye, the Texans have a bright future.

11

San Francisco

Patrick Willis

MLB

Ole Miss

6-2

242

12th overall

Thoughts: The selection of Patrick Willis is a great pick by the 49ers. Willis is one of the “can’t miss” players in this draft and he becomes an instant star with the Niners. San Francisco has the makings of a great offense and Willis adds potential to the defense.

12

Buffalo

Marshawn Lynch

RB

California

5-11

217

16th overall

Thoughts: A little bit of a reach for Lynch, but it fills an immediate need for the Bills. After trading Willis McGahee to the Baltimore Ravens, it was obvious that Buffalo was looking for a running back. Lynch becomes an instant starter and has an opportunity to shine with the Bills.

13

St. Louis

Adam Carriker

DE

Nebraska

6-6

296

11th overall

Thoughts: The St. Louis Rams address a huge question mark on their defense – the defensive line. The selection of Carriker gives the Rams a versatile lineman who can play inside and outside. He’s an excellent run defender and improves their run defense immediately.

14

**N.Y. Jets (from Panthers)**

Darrelle Revis

CB

Pittsburgh

5-11

204

15th overall

Thoughts: A great move by the New York Jets moving up in the draft to steal Darrelle Revis. The Jets needed to add a defensive back and they had their choice between Revis and Michigan ’s Leon Hall; obviously they liked Revis better than Hall.

15

Pittsburgh

Lawrence Timmons

OLB

Florida State

6-1

234

25th overall

Thoughts: The Steelers addressed a position of need with the selection of Lawrence Timmons. Timmons replaces Joey Porter at the outside linebacker position and gives the Steelers a lot of versatility on defense.

16

Green Bay

Justin Harrell

DT

Tennessee

6-4

300

35th overall

Thoughts: I was shocked that the Packers selected Harrell at the 16th pick. Does Harrell have potential? Sure, but when you have a need for offensive playmakers you don’t draft a defensive tackle. With players like Robert Meachem, Dwayne Jarrett and Dwayne Bowe available, I think Green Bay made a huge mistake.

17

** Denver (from Jacksonville )**

Jarvis Moss

DE

Florida

6-6

250

21st overall

Thoughts: This was a quality pick for the Broncos, but I don’t understand why they moved up to draft Jarvis Moss? I think if they stayed patient and waited until the 21st selection he would have been available. The Broncos were proactive and targeted a player and they got him.

18

Cincinnati

Leon Hall

CB

Michigan

5-11

193

10th overall

Thoughts: The Bengals get a quality defender and a player that will be a leader in their secondary. Leon Hall is a very good cover corner and helps the Bengals pass defense immediately.
