Bears get their man and the Colts don't

Olsen could have gone as high as #14 or as low as #31 and he went as low as he was projected to go. Olsen provides the Chicago Bears with a missing ingredient in their offense

28

San Francisco (from Patriots)

Joe Staley

OT

Central Michigan

6-5

306

29th overall

Thoughts: The Niners traded up and targeted the big offensive tackle out of Central Michigan Joe Staley. I had the Ravens selecting Staley with the 29th pick, but the Niners had the intuition to move a pick ahead of Baltimore and select him. Staley becomes an instant starter on the Niners offensive line.

29

Baltimore

Ben Grubbs

G

Auburn

6-3

311

37th overall

Thoughts: With Staley off the board, the Ravens select the best available offensive lineman – Auburn ’s Ben Grubbs. Grubbs is a physical guard who becomes an instant starter for the Ravens. He fills an immediate need for Baltimore and has a chance to be a mainstay for a long-time.

30

San Diego

Craig Davis

WR

LSU

6-1

207

59th overall

Thoughts: A head-scratching kind of pick, I am surprised the Chargers reached for Craig Davis? With Dwayne Jarrett on the board, he would have been the popular pick with the fans. Davis is a nice player, but he’s a receiver that was projected as a second round pick.

31

Chicago

Greg Olsen

TE

Miami

6-5

254

14th overall

Thoughts: Olsen could have gone as high as #14 or as low as #31 and he went as low as he was projected to go. Olsen provides the Chicago Bears with a missing ingredient in their offense, a tight end that can stretch the field. Olsen is a reliable receiver for Rex Grossman over the middle.

32

Indianapolis

Anthony Gonzalez

WR

Ohio State

6-0

195

#50 overall

Thoughts: The Colts opted for a wide receiver with most of the talented linebackers off the board. Indianapolis could have selected Paul Posluszny, but they decided on Anthony Gonzalez. Gonzalez replaces Brandon Stokley in the Colts offense and gives Peyton Manning another weapon.
