James Nees
The closest James has come to on-the-court fame was attending the same
high school as future Globetrotter Lynette Woodard, but that hasn't
stopped this KU alum from becoming a hoops diehard and expert. After
two tours in Iraq, James was looking for something even more risky -
covering college hoops for Sports Grumblings.

McFadden is the most unpredictable placement...

1. Dolphins – Chris Long DE,
UVa – Howie Long's son. Solid pass rush and superior run defense.
2. Rams – Glenn Dorsey DT, LSU – The top player on several lists. A prototype
4-3 defensive tackle.
3. Falcons – Darren McFadden RB, Arkansas – A classic speed back with some
size. A big play machine.
4. Raiders – Sedrick Ellis DT, USC – This is one of the draft climbers. Some
like him better than Dorsey.
5. Chiefs – Jake Long LT, Michigan – Huge, strong, fundamentally sound and
consistent. The LT from the coaches lounge.
6. Jets – Vernon Gholston DE, Ohio St – This is DE from central casting. An
athletic freak of nature.
7. Patriots – Keith Rivers LB, USC – For those that want production in college,
there is none better.
8. Ravens – Matt Ryan QB, Boston College – The clear top QB coming out of the
Senior Bowl.
9. Bengals – Dan Connor LB, Penn State – They call Penn State LineBacker U.
Connor is one of the reasons.
10. Saints – Leodis McKelvin CB, Troy St – The deepest position in the draft is
CB. Ranking of the first 2-3 is a matter of taste.
11. Bills – Mike Jenkins CB, South Florida – The top DB on many lists.
12. Broncos – Derrick Harvey DE, Florida – He's often compared to Javon Kearse.
13. Panthers – Kenny Phillips S, Miami – By far the best of a weak safety
class.
14. Bears – Ryan Clady OT, Boise State – More athletic than Jake Long, but not
as NFL ready.
15. Lions – Jeff Otah LT, Pittsburgh – A beast. Huge frame and a mean streak.
16. Cardinals – Jonathan Stewart RB, Oregon
- A big RB with speed. Body hat of about 5%.
17. Vikings – DeSean Jackson WR, Cal – Lightning. The most dangerous return man
in the draft.
18. Texans – Antoine Cason CB, Arizona – Started every game of his college
career.
19. Eagles – Phillip Merling DE, Clemson – A hustler and a hitter. His stock is
rising.
20. Buccanears – Felix Jones RB, Arkansas - He showed game breaking speed when
McFadden was hurt.
21. Redskins – Calais Campbell DE, Miami – A prospect. He rates because of
potential more than production.
22. Cowboys – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie CB, Tennessee St – A riser. Some rate
him with the top 3.
23. Steelers – Gosder Cherilus OT, Boston College – Huge, mean and from a top
OL school.
24. Titans – Malcolm Kelly WR, Oklahoma – The best big WR in this draft. Not
running at the Combine.
25. Seahawks – Rashard Mendenhall RB, Illinois – Another riser. A great size
and speed combination.
26. Jaguars – Tracy Porter CB, Indiana – A quality cover CB, but a tad small to
be elite.
27. Chargers – Kentwan Balmer DT, North Carolina – Solid all around. Some years
he might have been the top DT.
28. Cowboys – Aqib Talib CB, Kansas – He had a head turning performance in the
Orange Bowl. S/CB tweener.
29. 49'ers – Mario Manningham WR, Michigan – He's hurt by the depth at WR. Very
solid, but a tad small.
30. Packers – Pat Sims DT, Auburn – More quick than powerful. Can play either
3-4 or 4-3.
31. Cheaters – none
32. Giants – Sam Baker, OT USC – He was the top prospect going into the season.
He slipped, but just a bit.
