Will Matt Ryan tumble in the first round, like Matt Leinhart, Aaron Rodgers and Brady Quinn did in recent years?

It is Showtime. This is an
attempt to get the exact order of the picks, including trades, rather than the
specific team. Grab the popcorn and the six pack, and lets get on with it.
For the first time since 1991, there is not any clear player or two ahead
of the field. Then it was a weak field; here it is the opposite. Miami has
already signed Jake Long to a below-market deal. All the top four-six picks
will be overpaid, so trades are unlikely. After that, its open season.
1. Dolphins – Jake
Long
OT (Michigan) It's a done deal. Miami gets a leader as well as a player.
2. Rams – Vernon
Gholston
DE (Ohio State) This is a close call over Glen Dorsey. Dorsey would really shake
things up.
3. Falcons – Glenn
Dorsey
DT (LSU) If he goes to St. Louis, Atlanta will be hard pressed to avoid
reaching for Matt Ryan.
4. Raiders – Darren
McFadden
RB (Arkansas) If Gholston is here, he is an option. Neither would be a need
pick, but Al Davis loves athletes, and these are the elite pair in the draft.
5. Chiefs – Chris
Long
DE (Virginia) With the trade of Jared Allen to Minnesota, DE is now a thin
area, plus he is the best player available. Vernon Gholston also works here. If
both are gone, the team has no clear direction.
6. Jets – Matt
Ryan
QB (Boston College) This is no reach. The Jets are hoping for McFadden or
Gholston, or they could draft their top CB. This pick is an admission that
Kellen Clemons is not the answer.
7. Patriots – Sedrick
Ellis
DT (Southern Cal) This selection is possible for the Patriots, but also a trade
with New Orleans. Cincinnati is ready to grab Ellis at #9 if the Saints do not
trade up
8. Ravens – Ryan
Clady
OT (Boise State) The Ravens would love to have Matt Ryan still on the board,
and it is possible. Most likely they would have to trade up.
9. Bengals – Leodis
McKelvin
CB (Troy) Best Defensive Player Available. Sedrick Ellis is their first choice.
Another direction would be Brandon Albert or Kieth Rivers.
10. Saints – Keith Rivers LB (Southern Cal)
There is a good chance the Patriots pick here, and take the same player. LB is
the unappreciated position in this draft.
11. Bills – Devin Thomas WR (Michigan State) The Bills
are a bad fit in this slot, but Thomas is not the reach he recently seemed to
be. They would like to trade down a little, but not too far.
12. Broncos – Derrick
Harvey
DE (Florida) Denver rarely takes skill players this high, and never offensive
linemen. That is why both are “need” areas. But so is pass rush.
13. Panthers – Rashard Mendenhall RB (Illinois) This
is a great value pick. After all the teams line up for defensive players,
Carolina gets a steal.
14. Bears – Branden
Albert
OG (Virginia) The Bears would look hard at Rashard Mendenhall, while Chris
Williams and Jeff Otah are in the running, but Albert wins the beauty contest.
15. Lions – Dominique
Rodgers-Cromartie CB (Tennessee State) Detroit would love to get DCR, Harvey or
Mendenhall here. If they sit still, a good value at a need position will fall
to them.
16. Cardinals – Jonathan
Stewart
RB (Oregon) Look for the Cardinals to try to move up, especially if either
Stewart or Mendenhall get selected before Detroit.
17. Chiefs – Chris
Williams
OT (Vanderbilt) Part of the Jared Allen compensation. Kansas City will be
thrilled if any of the five LTs make it this far. A trade up is very possible.
18. Texans – Phillip Merling DE (Clemson) Jeff
Otah is also very possible. CB and WR are both possible.
19. Eagles – Jeff
Otah
OT (Pittsburgh) Otah will help their running game from day one. Philadelphia
almost annually invests a high pick in one line or the other. They love this
one.
20. Buccaneers – Chris
Johnson RB
(East Carolina) It is hard to believe that more is not made of his speed. Tampa
Bay needs speed badly. A WR, or help for the aging defense are possible.
21. Redskins – Mike Jenkins CB (South Florida) This would
be a nice scenario for Washington. Jenkins is both value and need. Antoine
Cason, Calais Campbell or a WR are also possible.
22. Cowboys – Felix Jones RB (Arkansas) RB is not a
glaring need, so there will be time to work him into the rotation. Jones brings
speed to the backfield and can return kicks. Plus he's a Razorback.
23. Steelers – Jerod Mayo LB (Tennessee)
Pittsburgh always seems to have good LBs.
They would love Merling or a LT. Kentwan Balmer is also possible
24. Titans – Antoine
Cason
CB (Arizona) This is a safe pick. Cason started every game in his college
career. Balmer or James Hardy are
alternatives
25. Seahawks – Dustin
Keller
TE (Purdue) This is a need pick, but
not a long stretch. Brian Brohm or Chad Henne are possible, either in house or
by trade.
26. Jaguars – Kentwan
Balmer
DT (North Carolina) Jacksonville needs a DT, and Balmer is starting to slide.
27. Chargers – Gosder
Cherilus
OT (Boston College) San Diego is one of the better value drafting teams in the
league, and very unpredictable. Almost anything is possible.
28. Dallas – Aqib
Talib CB
(Kansas) Kenny Phillips is also likely. Talib is a tweener and a zone
CB, neither of which fit Dallas, but he is a playmaker. Trading down for a team
wanting a QB is also likely.
29. 49'ers – Brian
Brohm QB
(Louisville) By this point he is sliding. Any of the last three or four picks
could be traded to pick Brohm or Henne.
30. Packers – Calais
Campbell DE
(Miami) Quentin Groves is possible, as
are Malcolm Kelly or Kenny Phillips.
31. Giants – Curtis
Lofton
LB (Oklahoma) The Giants rarely trade. Lofton could start in the middle for
them into the 20's.
